Catching up with this thread always makes my head hurt. We're reaching page 200 for sure.
I have so many thoughts, but I guess I'll condense it down to this: best case scenario is neither side wins.
Here me out here; Chase for the Cup, but instead of 10 races with 10 drivers, we extend it to 36 races and there's no specific amount of drivers eligible and it's just whoever has the most points at the end of race 36 wins.
Wait a second...
Nobody is saying we need to return to the "Winston Cup system." Full season points =/= Winston Cup system. Also, the "hate" that system received has been greatly exaggerated.
The racing itself was good. And I actually liked that it was heavy on the tire failures. I just despise the fact that said tire failures decided the end all be all of the championship.
The entire race broadcast, I'm just like "hey guys...there's a race going on...and it has more than 4 cars in it...you can talk about the race, guys..."
What's even more infuriating is that the disgraced drug addict that came up with this format isn't even in NASCAR anymore (he's been shunned). So why they insist on sticking with this **** is baffling.
Context matters.
The way it happened, by way of manufactured tire failures leading into a GWC to be the final end all, be all championship decider, was appalling.
Larson as a champion isn't a bad thing on its own.
I just realized, the broadcast barely even mentioned Blaney afterward (the winner of the race, ya know, the thing we're watching) and sure as hell didn't even interview him. My god.
