107th Indianapolis 500 RACE Thread

Solid 7th place finish for Sato, he said before the race it could be his last one, let's hope it wasn't.
Early money is on Sato joining Acura for LeMans 2024.

Glad to see Newgarden finally get one, but I have to admit I really didn't care as long as we had a good race. I suppose I was pulling for Santino, but as long as it was won clean, I'm happy enough. Kind of gut wrenching to see it ripped out of Ericsson's hands so late.

There was some crazy, desperate driving going on all race. I mean, how many cars crashed in the pits?

Pato didn't win the 500, but he sure went out on his shield trying. Now he's left himself down in the championship, but we already know he's going to claw it back.

What a miserable month for Rahal, missing the show, starting laps down, and then getting taken out with a handful of laps to go. He had a career's worth of misery on a single day.

This probably isn't the instant classic we look for. All the reds at the end sort of took the steam out of it (though it was legit and by the book) and the one lap shootout on cold tires was a bit bizarre.

Not the greatest 500, but still a really good one.

Track Car!! Just kidding. We actually drove a Super Late at Myrtle Beach and it was owned by the Track owners brother and I cant tell you how many times we were called that after a win. Oh and Congrats to Newgarden

Hmm that’s interesting. Anything ever happen to play into their favor?
Not that I'm aware of and I follow IMSA pretty closely.

What's with all the nascar hate? We wouldn't even have sportscar racing in the US without the France family. It took 20 years to whip it back into shape, but the damage from 1973 nearly destroyed the entire sport. France involvement and France money kept it afloat until they worked with the French (next to impossible) all that time to give us the convergence.

No hate at all. Just trying to get a interesting conversation going is all. I mean I don’t even think it was any foul play at hand here either. Just something fun to discuss imo

Nothing that really sticks out tbh. If anything, they’ve underperformed the last season and some change.

Back when the France family was propping up Ganassi during the Grand-Am days was probably the most controversial.

My hats off to IndyCar and Roger Penske for putting on another great race. That was a very exiting race thanks to a green flag finish. I just wish they would have red flagged it earlier so they would have had a 2-lap finish. I just don't want to see another IndyCar race finish under caution.

If you see a 2023 Indianapolis 500 tire that may even some attached parts for or sale on ebay........

Sorry. I should have phrased that a little better.

There have been several instances where Jim's team got punted or crashed, including one that cost them the championship, and IMSA could have intervened but didn't. I believe it's all above board. Like I say, we wouldn't even have sportscar racing without the Frances, and while I'm not crazy about nascar, I do respect how they have given us a healthy sportscar series.

Indycar needs to look at that wheel tether and see why it failed. We can't have spectators getting hurt.

They’ve made a lot of progress with wheel tethers over the years, including some upgrades just this past offseason. I’m sure they’ll evaluate this one to see what, if any improvements can be made. It was such a bizarre reverse wheel-to-wheel contact.

Very glad we didn’t have an outcome like ‘87 Indy, ‘98 Michigan, or ‘99 Charlotte.

Kept up with the race while at work. That tire flying over the fence took my breath away. Must have said something because a
couple of co-workers asked if everything was OK.
Really didn't know who to root for because there are several drivers I like.

wow what a race. what prevents F1 from racing as close as indy does? too much of a disparity between have and have nots?

:(

not suprised Legge was involved in another accident starting in the back
