12 people killed at a movie theater in Colorado

I have guns, I believe in the 2nd amendment but nobody needs a AK-47/ M-16 or any of it's variants. While you might meet the age requirement and have a clean background you can be freakin' nutz and buy a gun. There has to be a better way.
 
Crazy. I usually avoid midnight movies cause I don't like being in a packed movie theater but I would never have thought something like this would happen. Very hard to even really prevent this thing without having security checks or metal detectors at the front. Not that I'm calling for any of this, just saying there is no real way to prevent this kind of thing.

And sadly even if there were stricter gun control laws, if there is a will there is a way. People are crazy.
 
I also read that a 3 month old was injured as well. Now why the hell is a 3 month old at a movie in the first place let alone a midnight movie.

I couldn't agree more with you SST55. I believe in the 2nd Amendment and carry myself but feel there's a way better way. Some of these gun laws are way to relaxed and outdated to fit today's society.
 
What a sad, sad story. I don't know wtf possesses people these days. This guy, James Holmes, would have probably carried out something unimaginable regardless of any gun laws. His mind is obviously effed up beyond our understanding. It's hard to believe that we have to worry about other individuals like him that are still out here among us all. I don't like having to think that something as simple as going to the local theater to watch a movie can end up in such a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to all of those victims along with their family and friends and I hope that bastard rots in hell.
 
I just don't understand it, I don't understand how anyone can shoot an innocent person, let alone a child.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and all of their families.
 
This is not a gun control issue. This is an evil bastard issue. The type of gun he used had very little to do with the destruction caused. He could have achieved virtually the same thing with a handgun and multiple clips, or even two or more handguns. There is no way to completely get rid of all of the guns in the world. Even completely outlawing guns would do nothing but make it illegal for honest people to protect themselves and their families. This is a tragedy, pure and simple. Making it about gun control does nothing to ease the pain of those who lost family members, or those who were shot and lived through it. It only makes some people feel important. It also helps some to ease the feeling of powerlessness against random acts of violence.

All events with guns are gun control issues.

I feel sorry for the families.
 
What I find odd about this entire thing is that he had body armour on and it looked like he was excpecting a confrontation, yet he surrendered apparently right away as soon as the cops arrived. Also some one was seen talking on a cell phone down near the exit door about 15 minutes before all this happened, so possibly he had some one helping him. Another strange thing too, why tell the cops his apartment was booby trapped? A lot of things don't add up. First Columbine, now this for Colorado, terrible thing for sure.

I don't know much about the movie, but I've heard some people report that he was dressed like the villain in the movie (Bane?), so maybe that's why all the armor?

He also told the police to call him "The Joker"

But I don't mean that in a bad way. Although I'm willing to fly out and do it. Even use my own gun and bullet,,no charge.

I've had a concealed carry permit since 1967 and never had a reason to pull it. I agree whole heartedly with you.
 
This is very disturbing. I just don't understand what is in someone's head to do something like this. I feel for all the victims involved.

My cuz is right, there are some that just "need killin" plain and simple. Guess with my blood relations I could lay claim to being a Texan. Right TRL? Maybe honorary? Aw hell, I'm a swamp Yankee. I'd never fit in. But that don't mean I wouldn't shoot that sumbeeach and watch him suffer.

Neither do I. All I can say is everyday we're in contact with a lot of sick people. The victims and families have my sympathy.

The 3 yo wasn't injured. According to a person on a 'news' station parents took young children because they're too cheap to pay a babysitter...kid will fall asleeep and parents can have a good time.

Or they could stay at home, wait for the DVD release and save even more money. It's the same movie no matter where and when you see it, right?

I do wonder what in hell what wrong with this guy but it's too bad that he had to take it out on otherwise innocent people.
 
I wonder how long it'll take for someone to sue the theater for not having an alarm on the emergency exit door...

I have wondered about there not being an alarm on the Emergency Door it's my understanding that is is required by Fire Code in all public buildings and business's.

Maybe while caseing the theater in advance this guy disabeld the alarm?
 
How is Obama going to visit the victims a circus? It's a national tragedy and I'd be disappointed if the POTUS didn't go.
 
I'm not sure what an alarm on the door would have accomplished. Are you telling me that if you were sitting there watching the movie and you heard an alarm go off, you would have jumped up and ran from the theatre? Your first thought would probably be that it was part of the movie. Even if you figured out that it was an emergency door alarm, wouldn't you just figure it was just some kids sneaking into the theatre? There is no way you would have thought "Oh no, here comes a maniac with a gun and delusions of grandeur, I better get out of here immediately!".

Your looking at it from the opposite angle.

A fire alarm going off would have alerted the employees of the theater who would likely call 911 which would bring Fire Department and Police to the scene. Thats assuming that the fire alarm was not directly connected to the 911 system in that case there would have been an even qiucker response.
No self respecting criminal would want that happening.

He's doing the right thing as a person but I feel this will be somehow turn to be used in his Re-Election campaign(which I feel it has no place being there) that is the circus
 
Mittens hit the airwaves first. Figure he'll use it for his election campaign??? Neither should but at some point both will. Just as bush did in ads standing on the rubble at the WTC site. It's a despicable thing to do using others loss and grief but use it they will. Sad.

Never heard what Mittens said or I would say the same about him.
 
If he really is sincere he would slip in and visit them without the "MEDIA" circus, speeches and all of which I would interpret as disrespect if I were involved. This is not a party line issue as far as I am concerned but how it should be handled by anybody. How would you like a local politician coming to a wake or service for a relative of yours and make speeches and campaign for dog catcher. This is my opinion, pick it apart if you will but it will remain as my opinion.
