16 Chase Drivers... Overkill?

I actually liked the 2011-2013 format the best. I thought NASCAR finally had it figured out with that one. Then we get this.
Yeah, same here. For once they had found a nice balance between winning and consistency. Unfortunately, that was never the goal. They want it to be all about winning.

I'm in a good mood so I'll stop before someone comes along and complains about my complaining. ;)

If a Jr, Johnson, or Gordon get eliminated early.

I expect another change in format. Oh, not to mention the plummeting in ratings.

Gordo or JR. don't forget they all get up and leave for Jr when he screws up.

Completely agree(d)

But I like this winning thing.

Robin Miller always says the point systems should be:

Winner- 1 point
Second thru 43- 0 points

Bottom line guys, we have 12 teams in the NFL playoffs and 16 in NBA/NHL

NASCAR is just following the pattern of American sport. We like playoffs. Casual fans watch playoffs.

'Win and you're in ' ,may be putting a lot of pressure on Biffle and Ambrose , but for teams like the 88 , this season has been a breeze . Zero pressure . I'm not even sure that it's still called 'a season' ; it's more like an exhibition season with the real races coming up next week .

A lot of the purists, the non-casual fans, don't like it, and that's their choice. NASCAR isn't like every other sport.

Its overkill really. Seriously, Dinger has 0 chance of doing anything. Newman is another. Those guys are toast before we even get started. May as well let DAnica in on a mulligan or something for even more drama.

Actually it comes down to 4 drivers lol

Yeah, I stand corrected. The Penske Fords are tough no doubt about that and have pretty good drivers also. THe cream will come to the top at the end of this thing one way or the other. Im not a big fan of the chase deal anyway. The france mafia will do anything to create more drama while it lines their back pockets.

Wait until BK has a motor, tire blow or gets taken out by a bonehead move in the next 3 races and he's knocked out of the chase...
Nascar is trying to imitate the playoffs in other sports, except in those sports if you lose a playoff game you're done for the year. If nascar truly wanted a playoff we'd only have 16 cars in the next race and just the "final 4" at Homestead....

My dream is to see one of the 16 eliminated early and then going on a winning streak.....really mess up the entire Chase.

Comparing old-time NASCAR to rotary phones is like comparing muscle cars of the 60s to Volkswagen beetles.

It will be interesting when any of the drivers who have multiple wins gets knocked out and nascar reveals the double secret exemption plan that's been hidden in a mayonnaise jar buried in brains back yard.:)

Or not

Who cares the same 6 drivers that have dominated all year (Gordon, Kez, Harvick, jr, Logano, Jimmie) will be the guys battling it out. There's honestly no point for the other drivers in the chase other then taking up space.

Stick and ball needs playoffs though because the season consists of 1-on-1 matchups with varying schedules, not 1-on-42 matchups where everyone has the same schedule. Everybody takes on everybody else in NASCAR every week, so no playoff necessary. The Chase is just an ill-fated attempt to take on the NFL.

why go w/ 16 car format ?

A; .......public already familiar w/ that format. .
"sweet 16 "
" final 4 "
" elimination "
etc.

over 11 million filled out / submitted espn's ncaa bb bracket this spring. millions more did so at office / bar / etc.
millions watched.....see tv ratings

sort of a no brainer ....if you want a new format ta mass promote tha chase.
........pick something folks already familiar with.

the TV ratings will tell the $tory or not.

I'll say this, I have a feeling I'll be riveted by the Homestead race. That will probably make all of this worth it.

I'm pretty interested to see what kind of effect the new Chase format will have on the TV ratings.

This is what the whole thing is for in my opinion, using auto racing to boost TV ratings and advertising dollars. Gotta do something, ratings are down, the rich aren't getting richer, lets create some drama, throw a bunch of commercials at it and go from there. Who knows, it might work. They aren't going to run off the loyal fan base, we'll put up with just about anything.

With that logic, Stewart would be a 2 time champ.
