19 crew chief takes indefinite leave

I only watch ESPN whenever Tennis or Soccer is on, which is not very often. All of their other programming doesn't interest me. Seems like NBC Sports and FOX Sports have all of the good stuff these days (MMA, NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, Indycar).

How could FRR be head and shoulders above JGR, I thought their was a sharing of info between them?

Excellent question Taco Time. I can have the code to a safe with a trillion dollars in it, but if I can't focus long enough to turn the dial, I will never get in.

Ive noticed that too. Don't get me wrong im no JGR fan, but its not quite so satisfying to see them (kyle) lose and cry about it post race if they are off every week or just slower. I would say that everyone else just put in the work over the off season to get to the performace Toyota showed last season, however the Furniture Row cars are doing fine, so something is definitely off, and this Edwards/Rogers situation is very sketchy and suspicious. It feels beyond not quite right to me.

The TRD Toyotas are faster this year than last at this time. This car is new, and there are two rookies--now both with rookie CC's. This package never suited the JGR guys, but they are competitive this year which tells me that they made huge gains in the offseason. I don't know what the hell is going on at JGR, but it seems really weird. FRR was supposed to struggle with a new team, but they have maximized the potential of the new car which will only get better. Crisis at JGR? Dunno, but I am starting to worry.

I don't want to stir up a hornets nest or commence to fighting but something has seemed a little off with JGR this year. I know Kyle was in a position to win a race but something just doesn't seem right but of course they have very high standards to live up to. For whatever reasons the cars seem a tick slow and seem to have handling issues. This is nothing I can prove and I may be 100% wrong.

Yeah, I really don't agree with the performance comment. I think that they have been actually quicker--amazing given the new car. Kyle was fabulous at Phoenix--a place where JGR specifically and Toyota in general has struggled. The performance was good in Vegas too. Same with Cali. Atlanta was a struggle. This is what concerns me....I think the cars are there, but the execution is lacking.....and there hasn't been much racing luck either.

It's early.

I agree, but I do feel that from a performance perspective my TRD powered Camrys are quicker than they were last year. Finishes and points don't tell the whole story IMO. I haven't walked away from Auto Club feeling that positive about Toyota's speed....ever.

Trouble in TRD paradise.

This is turning into a "What's wrong with the 48?" type thread lol

JGR is not doing that bad.. Sure they're not running up front and leading many laps but they're getting top 5s and 10s or at least making their way there by the end of the race barring incident and Kyle clearly had the car to beat at Phoenix in the closing laps. It's way too early to say something is off.. Plus the DNFs.. I dont know the numbers but Id say out of the 5 races this season them've probably had about 10 wrecks among them.

Im sure they'll be fine.. The 19 will probably struggle.. But I'm pretty sure that would have happened anyway.

Last year the 20 had a similar start with wrecks etc. I think we are just not getting the dominance for the entire race like we are used to with JGR, however not complaining about that at all.

That's the thing..they are normal again. The dominant for entire race thing lasted a season and a half..now, they are running like they always have.. top 5-top 10 with a few wins scattered througg out the year, with maybe a breakthrough driver. HMS is top dog and JGR is just doing their thing now.

Lebron is the best player in the NBA..but Steph Curry had two mvp seasons. Same deal

I like Daniel. If it wasn't for Kurt, he might be my driver.

I still have trouble understanding him though. Man, that accent is thick.

HMS.. Really? Lol lets see.. Daytona SHR.. Atlanta Penske.. Vegas FRR.. Phoenix RCR(dominant JGR car).. And Auto Club CGR.. Points leader CGR... Id get into top 5s and 10s but I think you get it.. Chase is running up front..other than that HMS has basically been less than impressive let alone top dog.

At this point there is no clear front running team IMO.. A case could be made for 2-3 teams but sorry to say I dont think HMS is one of them.

It's still early in the season but I think the top 3 teams so far are Penske, FRR, and CGR.

On second thought.. Those are all 2 car teams.. And all have only one driver with one win.. Id have to give it to Penske bc Logano has run better than McMurray and Jones.. But its close.

I think they are better. I never bought into the dominance thing. They won plenty with strategy. I look more to the Practice and Qualifying pace, and that is in better shape at tracks they struggled on in '16. I agree with you that everybody improved, however, and that does close the gap. The other things that have to be factored into all of this are the fact that this is a new Camry and that the rules package is different. Kyle is struggling with it as is Jimmie. That kind of clouds the performance analysis. Interesting stuff.

Kyle is their only consistently dominant car right now. They other 3 cant get it together. This year it seems harder for the four car teams to get it together.
