There are only two points races left for some drivers to get into the 2003 The Winston, a few drivers not in the race yet who have won in the past few years: #99-Jeff Burton; #43-John Andretti; #19-Jeremy Mayfield; #01-Jerry Nadeau; #25-Joe Nemechek; #1-Steve Park; #45-Kyle Petty; #49-Ken Schrader and #7-Jimmy Spencer. If these drivers do not win at California or Richmond, they will need to win the Winston Open to get in the race. 2-Rusty Wallace and #5-Terry Labonte are in automatically for being past Winston Cup champs.

Here is the current line-up for the Winston...and why...

1 Ward Burton 2002 Daytona 500
2 Matt Kenseth 2002 Rockingham
3 Sterling Marlin 2002 Las Vegas
4 Tony Stewart 2002 Atlanta
5 Kurt Busch 2002 Bristol
6 Bobby Labonte 2002 Martinsville
7 Dale Earnhardt Jr 2002 Talladega
8 Jimmie Johnson 2002 California
9 Mark Martin 2002 Coke 600
10 Dale Jarrett 2002 Pocono
11 Ricky Rudd 2002 Infineno
12 Michael Waltrip 2002 Pepsi 400 at Daytona
13 Kevin Harvick 2002 Tropicana 400, Chicago
14 Bill Elliott 2002 Pocono(2)
15 Jeff Gordon 2002 Sharpies 500, Bristol
16 Ryan Newman 2002 New Hampshire 300
17 Jamie McMurray 2002 Lowe's, UAW Quality 500
18 Johnny Benson 2002 Rockingham, Pop Secret 400
19 Elliott Sadler #28 Team win at 2002 Infineno
20 Ricky Craven 2003 Darlington spring race

Can Elliott Sadler really get in because of a Ricky Rudd win in a car # that Robert is not running any longer?? That doesnt seem right, it seems to me that Ricky Rudd should be in with the #21 since he was the winning driver from last year.

Thats what I thought too! ;)

Ricky Rudd is in the race with the #21 because of his win last season...I don't understand the confusion.

Eligibility rules for The Winston:
1st criteria: Drivers and car owners who have won races in the current and preceding year. If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he remains eligible and the car owner's new driver also is eligible(through the last race before The Winston)

2nd criteria: Drivers who are past Winston Cup champions

3rd criteria: Drivers who have won The Winston in the last 5 years(1998-2002)

4th criteria: The winning driver of the Winston Open

5th criteria: Drivers who have won in previous years, not eligible by the above(not owners, just drivers)

Thanks HS but none of that applies to Elliott Sadler, he is not running the 28 and should not benefit from Ricky's win with a team that no longer exists. Am I missing something, did Nascar give the 38 the owners points from the 28. If that is the case then when Chip dropped the 42 after Kenny Irwin passed away why did they lose owners points?? I am confused. Dang it...I hate it when that happens! LOL

Also the 28 team's points from last year did go to the 38 team and that is why Elliott Sadler is in the race.

I included them but they weren't on the list though. It was from Jaski. :)
