2014 Michigan - Pure Michigan 400 - Pre Race Thread

Jeff is working on his grey dumbledore beard.

Too much grey for your young age Jeff.

Been busy for the past few hours. Logged in to NASCAR.com to see Gordon on the front page with the coors light pole award two weeks in a row. Atta boy :beerbang:

Here's to no sabotage this week

2206.558 MPH? Thats the power of the Rainbow Warrior fans on this board. Die hard fans, muchos respect.

He won't unless Jimmy Johns sponsors him.

Seriously, thats insanely quick. Only a matter of time until restrictor plates will have to be used. 206 mph...

That will probably stand for a while with them slowing the cars down next year.

Looks like the 48 team has their work cut out for them.

They were over a second and a half off Logano's pace.

JJ ran 7 laps compared to Joey's 18.

Johnson qualified 30th, almost a second behind Gordon, who won the pole.

Maybe they'll figure it during practice today and do better in race trim.

Matt Crafton or Johnny Sauter will race the #83 tomorrow if Ryan Truex isn't cleared.

Jeff Gordon practicing with debris on the grill to see how long it takes for the engine to heat up

Truex walked away but had shoulder pain and a possible concussion.

In 1978 Petty to came to Michigan with this Monte Carlo that was purchased from Cecil Gordon just days prior to the race.
It ended Pettys long standing relationship with Mopar.

I think the move payed off, he was in a long winless slump at the time. Improvement followed, he almost won a late season race at Atlanta and he won the championship in 1979. Listening to MRN it seemed like he had won that Atlanta race.
But immediately afterwards it became clear that Donnie Allison had won in a Hoss Ellington car. I was dissapointed but I think the ruling was correct based on the accounts given, that was when scoring was done manually with scorecards.
Does anybody remember those days.
I can still hear the P.A. asking for somebody to score a particular car for 200 lap late model races at Greenville Pickens.

We went to the Chevy display to see Jeff Gordon. I positioned Aiden along the front row of where Jeff was going to exit the area and he was rewarded with a Jeff Gordon fist bump. That's a really big deal to a 10 year old considering Jeff is his number one sports hero. Totally worth getting here 3 hours early.

I believe that surprise winner could be Mr Ku. Busch.

That wouldn't surprise me but a win by Stenhouse certainly would. RFR tested here after embarrassing themselves in June and are looking for redemption.

It'll likely be a fuel mileage situation so anyone from Gordon to Allgaier to Patrick could win this one. I'm always hoping for a Kenseth win but wouldn't mind seeing Burton in victory lane.

That's the best damn part of NASCAR. Drivers interaction with fans. There is no other sport like it.

I hope to be able to enjoy this weeks race. Last weeks race was fantastic and a great one to witness if not for the unfortunate incident that took place.

doesn't look like it should be raining at all from the radar I am looking at. hope it quits and stays quit.
