Rules to make the Sprint All-Star Race
Eligibility rules for Sprint All-Star Race:
1st criteria: Drivers who have won races in the current and preceding year. If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he remains eligible (through the last race before The All-Star Race), the team does NOT
2nd criteria: Drivers who are past Sprint Cup champions in the last 10 years
3rd criteria: Drivers who have won The All-Star Race in the past 10 years
4th criteria: The winning driver of the Sprint Showdown
5th criteria: Driver who finishes 2nd in the Sprint Showdown
6th criteria: Driver voted in by the fans

Check out Danica's sponsor. ROFL

We cant seem to get away from that. :D
Looks like they've come out with a preemptive announcement to keep us from breaking the new rules on the board. I mean, who can say they don't if they've already said that they do? Nice job by GoDaddy and DP.

The All-Star weekend takes on significance as my TRD Toyotas need the track time to get the car sorted. Need to find some gains.

This race is a good precursor for the championship, 10 times the driver who won the All Star Race went on to win the title:

Darrell Waltrip ('85)
Dale Earnhardt ('87, '90, '93)
Rusty Wallace ('89)
Jeff Gordon ('95, '97, '01)
Jimmie Johnson ('06, '13)

Has the 5th criteria always been active? Thought it was only the winner & fanvote.

Is the all-star race still four 20-lap segments and a 10-lapper? Anything new with inversions or anything like that?

I hope the laps are used wisely and some good comes from the experience. If JGR is going in the totally wrong direction nothing will help though, something has to give sooner or later :idunno:

I'm looking forward to seeing them tear down pit road without a speed limit during qualifying again.

I remember when it was normal to come in wide open. Talk about semi-controlled mayhem.
Yep and the crews with no "real" firesuits and no helmets. It's hard to imagine they really did it that way.

There have been lots of fun and exciting moments in this event, but for some stupid reason this will always be one of my favorites*.

*Behind Mark Martin's two wins, of course.

I cannot imagine that JGR with TRD assistance would continue down paths that lead to where they have been. I believe that they will improve. The question is can they improve enough to catch up? That will be very, very difficult. In fact, I would suggest that if they can, it would be one of the epic team/manufacturer comebacks in NASCAR history. This will be tough. Cool thing is that I know enough about TRD to know that they will not give up. Ever. Not even at 'Dega. Just saying'.

Aren't Matt & Kyle 2nd & 3rd in points?

Same as last year, although with the Showdown being the day before the final three cars in the field get to qualify instead of start at the back.

The showdown is the day before now? That's gay. I liked it all as one event. Plus it laid rubber down for the main event.

It might help out with Truck Series attendance since their race is afterwards. And I don't mind qualifying being right before the main event; hopefully it means less bull****. They used to take so much time in between the Showdown and All-Star Race.

:XXROFL:

Who thought of that? It should all be in one day. That formula has worked well enough. No need to change things up now. Ugh

NASCAR is completely unfamiliar with the old saying "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"! On the other hand, they are VERY familiar with another old saying "If It's Broke, Don't Fix It"!

Now let's see:
1. Show down race day change
2. First & second in the show down make the all star race
3. The points system over haul
4. The introduction of the GWC

How many things can NASCAR fix that ain't broke?

Yeah, 2 and 3 in points; and 4/5 of TRD Toyotas are currently in Chase position. However, the pace is not there. Currently, they have nothing the big guns at the moment.

Probably because since 4/5 of them are in contention, they can lay back and experiment with setups till September.

While I hate the move to Friday night, I'm not sure I understand all the griping about two Showdown drivers making the field. That has always been a floating number. During the early 2000s there was the Winston Open and the No Bull Sprint, and both winners advanced. The year Michael Waltrip won the Winston (1996), he actually finished fifth in the Open. The top-five advanced that year (Five!), he was the last guy in.
