2014 Sprint Cup Series All-Star Race - Pre Race Thread

As i sit here in my hotel room in Commerce Ga looking out the window at the rain poring down in buckets i can't help but think how cool it would be if our two Qualifying sessions on Sat would get over in time so a few of my teammates and i could jump in the rental car and make the 3 hour drive up to Charlotte on Sat night. But, then we would have to make the 3 hour drive back to Ga to race on Sun, and that would be brutal on all of us on raceday. In our younger days we wouldn't hesitate we would just do it, but as you get older your sleep seems a little more important.:D I guess i will just have to settle for watching it on my dvr when i get home next Wed. I hope all of your racing this weekend is exciting.

$99 per person? Plus food & drink? Plus merch? Plus a place to stay?

Attending a NASCAR even ain't too appealing to college students

Agreed but sh!t, Race tix are expensive. Two nights for $100? I'd be down. I've spent more for one-day tickets. Spending money at the Allstar race in general is kindof dumb though, you could see 600 miles of racing a week later versus a quarter of that the week before. I'm all about bang for the buck. Go to the 600. No one goes all checkers or wreckers in the All-star race anymore anyway.

Rules to make the Sprint All-Star Race
Eligibility rules for Sprint All-Star Race:
1st criteria: Drivers who have won races in the current and preceding year. If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he remains eligible (through the last race before The All-Star Race), the team does NOT
2nd criteria: Drivers who are past Sprint Cup champions in the last 10 years
3rd criteria: Drivers who have won The All-Star Race in the past 10 years
4th criteria: The winning driver of the Sprint Showdown
5th criteria: Driver who finishes 2nd in the Sprint Showdown
6th criteria: Driver voted in by the fans
So, say Jeff Gordon failed to win martinsville last year and had not won Kansas last Saturday night, does he qualify to make the all star race? He past title was over 10 years ago and so was his last allstar victory.

I've never had to worry about Gordon not being in the main event for as long as I can remember.

Well, yes and no. He certainly wouldn't have qualified as above, but it probably would have been a repeat of 2011. Junior wasn't qualified for the All-Star Race, but won the fan vote and got in anyways.

If he wasn't pre-qualified there is no doubt in my mind that he would place 1st or 2nd in the showdown.

It used to be that you couldn't trash your car in the Showdown and advance to the All-Star event. They probably changed it now that they're on separate days, so they can fix the car without going to a backup.
But that was the fun of it!! You had all new cars & one car that had some miles on it already. Awesome to see the beat up showdown car race to the front. The showdown car already had the setup correct to be fast on the track that day because they had just raced on it. Now if the weather changes from day to day it's gonna screw everyone up.

NASCAR is ****** up royal

Clint Bowyer on top of the board so far in showdown practice.

I think he's going to be the one to beat in tonights' race. He has more wins than anyone in the showdown

PS: Larson at a close second

If Marcos Ambrose wins the showdown race, he will personally donate $25,000 to the Victory Junction Camp

Parker is racing Kurts car during practice. Kurt is going to try to make it to charlotte for quals

But only if he wins ?

deja vu all over again . . . .
It's part of the winnings, not his out of pocket money.

Atleast he's offering to donate $25,000. Nobody else on this board has probably even donated to the VJG.

Showdown should be on the same night as the All star race.
It's not? I haven't been paying attention, since I won't see it this week. But yeah, should be the same day, like a non-qualifiers, consi, b-main, like it's always been. They always like to compare this race like your "average local track racing," so why not run it as such?

In typical Brad fashion, Keselowski practices coming down pit road at full steam 10 mins too early. :punkrocke:dunce:

I can never differentiate between McMurray, Stewart, and Dillon with all of the sponsorship they have from Bass Pro.

That pitting practice was awesome! Havent had that much fun watching practice in a long time :bounce:

Wish they had to do more than one stop in the race!

Feel like its gonna come down to Larson, Bowyer and Ambrose for the showdown.

The #3 racing it's way into the All Star event would likely create some buzz.
I think the #3 nostalgia fangirl feeling screaming has passed. Fans have come to terms that it's Dillon in the car, not Earnhardt.
