2014's new Chase Format ---Revisited-- pros / cons

I will say that one of the things I like is that championships come will often come down to a win, not having consecutive......15th place finishes as opposed to DNFs.

Personally, I wouldn't have the Chase, and I'd simplify the point system so that you get only a few different points amounts depending on your finish.
Something like this:

1st: 46 points
2-4: 39 points
5-8: 32 points
9-10: 27 points
11-12: 23 points
13-16: 18 points
17-30: 8 points
31-43: 1 point

I liked how it all worked out, I enjoyed the Chase for the first time. I figure long term consistency will increase a drivers chances, there won't be a dramatic win to advance every year. The only thing I would change is that the drivers who fall out of the Chase should also loose the Chase bonus points and compete with the rest of the field for the duration. I say this because Kyle Larson showed he could have made it into the top 10.

The easiest implementation I'd like to see would be carrying over bonus points from wins accumulated during the year to date, except into the finale. If you have six wins after the first thirty-two races and you've advanced into the round of eight, you start out with 4,018 points.

just go ahead and say it....The Newman Rule....:D

If a hockey player misses a shoot out goal to lose game 7 of the semi finals and his team doesn't make it to the finals for the cup... PEOPLE DONT BLAME THE GOALIE! LOL

maybe nascar oughta do like hockey. ?
presidents' trophy for most points / best record of yr.
stanley cup for playoff champ. :D

I loved how heated it got in the Final Rounds of the chase... Brought back some old school style racing... Although It did "seem" to make some of the races less important, but we can only say that now because Drivers already locked in won those races. It could have been different. I honestly enjoyed the Chase type format and the old style harder racing it brought back...

Honestly I would like to see a mix between the New Chase, and the Old points system.

If they're going to keep this Chase than don't change a thing. Stop changing my NASCAR!
Too bad it will probably change once Sprint leaves.... .I still cant wait to see who ends up taking the reins after sprint..

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I'll add my two cents anyway. As a long time (1st race was the Southern 500 in '59), and a member of Charlotte's 50 Year Club, I think I'm about to spend my money elsewhere.

The concept of the Chase was bad enough, but with the latest PT Barnum crap Brian France foisted upon us, I think I'll not renew my tickets for the Coca Cola 600 again (I've had the same seats since '85), and I'll spend my Sundays doing something more interesting.

The idea that one driver could win the first NINE races of the idiotic Chase, and STILL not win the "Championship" is so ludicrous that's it's laughable. My last comment for the King of NASCAR (France) and his cronies is this... LOOK IN THE STANDS!!!! ... LOTS of empty seats at places that used to be sold out long in advance of the race.

Welcome to our little forum Gary B . We're here for you sir . Nascar may not want to listen to you , but we're are all ears . PT Barnum doesn't even understand the point of qualifying when the fastest car in the field doesn't even get to start on the front row. But hey , the racing is better than ever , and apparently the drivers are trying harder now . Not.

pro- Kevin Harvick was given the championship he deserved in 2010

con- much of the regular season seemed meaningless to me and I missed more races than I ever have before.

The new and highly disgusting Chase format drastically reduced the amount of enthusiasm I have for this sport.

Before last year, I used to read every single thread in the "NASCAR Chat" section, and I made posts almost every day.

Lasy year, I visited about two days a week and only clicked on a handful of threads instead of every thread.
