2015 Las Vegas - Kobalt Tolls 400 - Pre Race Thread

In Vegas waiting on the Thursday's hauler parade. Pretty much camped out at South Point waiting on them to arrive probably starting Wednesday afternoon... Really praying one of my Chevy drivers win this year, they ran sooo good last year then one by one had problems handing the win over to Brad on the last lap, blehhh...

Brad Keselowski, driver of the #2 Miller Lite Ford, celebrates in victory lane after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 9, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada

What does Keselowski and Kobalt have in common?

They're both tools.

Cmon. Now was I the only one thinking of that open opportunity with Keselowski?

Been to a couple of races at Vegas. My best friend lives in Vegas, so we'd fly down and stay with her for the race weekend. Saved a lot of money not staying in a hotel. If we went to a casino, it was for dinner and a show. It's a great city to have a NASCAR race. More then enough hotels, things to do not related to racing. . . .the food and fun is awesome.

Last season was an anomaly. JJ never got the feel of the 2014 cup car and he struggled all season; didn't make it to the final 4 and finished 11th in the point standings. However, this year the few changes made to the cars plays right into Chad and JJ's plans.

Normally I would agree, but the change in qualifying format (especially at restrictor plate races) has me thinking otherwise now. If you still just went out on your own and put down a lap or two - sure.
Agreed

Last year's rules package favored an understeering car which JG & DEjr prefer and it showed all year in their results. It's expected that this year's rules will favor an more oversteering car which JJ & KyB have really excelled at in years that have similar rules.

Vickers, back in the car this weekend. Will he finish better/worse than 15th?

I'm going worse.

What say you?

Filling in for David Ragan. Ragan better be looking over his shoulder IMO

Brett Moffitt will drive for Front Row Motorsports for the next three races, beginning this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Moffitt, who is under contract with Michael Waltrip Racing, finished eighth filling in for Brian Vickers last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Vickers will return to MWR this weekend at Las Vegas.

Moffitt, 22, will drive the organization's No. 34 Ford at Las Vegas, Phoenix International Raceway and Auto Club Speedway. He will fill in for David Ragan, who is currently driving the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 while Kyle Busch recovers from a broken right leg and broken left foot suffered at Daytona.

Austin has better odds than "The field?" o_O

Even Danica at this point is doing better than.

I have to pull my "NASCAR is great" horns in on this issue. They recognized an issue, and changed things.

hey! Told you I'd admit if i was wrong.
You mean they reacted to an issue that they themselves created? Not my definition of "great".

yeah the "great" was in reference my earlier "defense of NASCAR" with respect to the inspection fiasco. Meaning I defended something I should not have and am falling on my sword over it.

This might be the first time I am ever interested enough to watch a race at Las Vegas... Kind of mad I almost miss Jr. win this race last year, don't want to make that a possibility again.

First event with this version of the package and a couple of new wrinkles in the inspection process. Some teams went through 3 times. It's likely to be better going forward.

Racing is imperfect. Part of its allure for me.

Vickers, I never have thought much of his driving, Moffitt with one race impressed me more than Vickers in his whole career. 3 wins in 12 years in cup. I can't see why he is still at that level.
3 wins in 12 Cup seasons....same exact stat line as Elliott Sadler.

One of those "wrinkles in the inspection process" is cutting the inspection time down dramatically.
