The race format is as follows:

- The race will feature four stages (20 laps / 20 laps / 20 laps / 10 laps), totaling 70 laps, an ode to the 1992 edition of the same distance.

- The goal for all competitors: Earn a spot in the final 10-lap, 10-car stage.

- The winner of each of the first three stages will lock up a spot in the final stage, as long as they remain on the lead lap after the third stage.

- The cars with the best average finish in the first three stages will make up the remaining spots needed to fill the 10-car final stage.

- The remaining 10 cars will be lined up by average finish of the first three stages and given the option to pit. Exit off pit road determines starting order for final stage.

- The winner will be awarded $1,000,000.

The Monster Energy Open will occur Saturday evening prior to the Monster Energy All-Star Race and will include three stages (20 laps / 20 Laps / 10 laps). The winner of each stage will earn a spot in the all-star race.

When I was a kid, I used to love this race for the special paint schemes. My all time favorite.

Kevin Harvick fan could win $1 million at Monster Energy All-Star Race

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kevin Harvick is one of NASCAR’s most popular drivers, a past champion with a huge following. But it’s a safe bet that this week, Harvick’s biggest fan is a guy named Steve Sinanan.

Suffice to say that Sinanan, 42, of Orlando, Fla., will be pulling hard for Harvick to win Saturday night’s Monster Energy All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (FS1, 6 p.m. ET).

Before this week, Sinanan was already a Harvick fan and now he’s all in. That’s because if Harvick wins the all-star race, Sinanan will pocket a cool $1 million courtesy of a promotional program with Busch Beer, Harvick’s primary sponsor for the race.

I still remember seeing the 24 rainbow car for the first time in person on the pace laps at Charlotte. Couldn't believe how bright that car was. The tide car as well was the same way.

Yes, as in the teams have that "option" to use the soft tire

But, teams using the "option" tire have to start at the rear

The tire codes aren't posted yet but I'd be surprised if the softs have a different circumference than the others.

Correcting myself here. You can use the softer tires whenever, but if you use them to start the final segment you start at the rear.
