Suddenly can't make it this year. Dad just had heart surgery. I drove by the track last week on my way to check on him and help Mom, and I'll drive by it again next weekend and race weekend. He doing great; when we left yesterday he was working on his fantasy team. He should be home by Labor Day weekend so I can watch the race with him.

Any of y'all that go, drink a beverage of your choice for him, and thanks!

Glad your dad is doing better, hope he has a speedy recovery.

This is my favorite race of the year

If you bought your ticket and it's just laying around I'll be glad to take it off your hands

Every few years we get a chance to travel to a race. Living in San Diego we have Vegas, Phoenix and Fontana close by, but races just aren't the same out here. So, this year we're packing up and making the trip to Darlington. Previous trips have been to Rockingham and Bristol. Next? Probably Martinsville.

Sorry, but something told me to wait this year so I'm empty handed. :idunno:

Can't wait...our first visit to Darlington begins in 10 days...any tips would be appreciated.
Be sure to go through the museum at the track. See the drivers that could wear the white jackets and those who could wear the blue.
Also, if you can, rub your hands on the pavement --- it once was so rough it would leave scratches on your fingers. Not sure if it's still
that abrasive.

If time permits, Saturday is the better day for the museum. There's obviously more people there on Sunday for the Cup race. It's around on the back stretch, where it's been since before the back was moved to the front and vice-versa. ;)

If you're doing the track walk, the entrance is between the front grandstands and turn 1. As TRL said, be sure to feel the pavement; it makes sandpaper feel like Kleenex.

If you're staying in or around nearby Florence, SC, I highly recommend eating here:

or here:

Darlington is located against a swamp, so the humidity stays pretty high. Heat indices this month have been running in the low 100s. If you're sitting in Brasington / Turn 1, you'll be facing straight into the sun for the first 100 to 150 laps. Be prepared.

Turns 1 and 2 are the wide end, 3 and 4 are the narrow end. The pond you can see behind turn 4 is NOT the original minnow pond. As their tires wear, drivers will start having problems in 2 first, then start having trouble getting through 3 and 4 later. If you're down in turn 4 / Pearson, watch pit entry; someone coming in on old tires WILL screw up.

Watching with Dad under those circumstances beats the hell out of being there every single second. Thoughts and prayers buddy.

Just remember guys Darlington Co. Doesnt allow the sale of alcohol on sundays come prepared.

Lol was trying to think which other direction they could've gone there. Pearson would've been cool just for 21 ties. At least Petty's and Blaney's fire suits look similar though!
Figured they would of least went Wood Bros with Pearson, but Blaney's scheme is a Kyle Petty throwback

I won't say that sc cops are assholes because I truly do respect law enforcement but you better cross your ts and dot your i's in sc.

Pretty much sky. I live just across the nc line. They can arrest you on the spot if you don't have the $$ then and there to pay your ticket.
