2017 Martinsville - First Data 500 - Pre Race Thread

What's the procedure if Qualifying is rained out for these one-day shows? How would they start?

Is first practice not on TV again?
Looks that way. :(

Saturday, Oct. 28
9:30 a.m., NASCAR Classic: The 1997 Daytona 500, FS1
10 a.m., Camping World Truck Series Keystone Light Pole Qualifying, FS1
11:30 a.m., Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Martinsville, NBC Sports App
12:30 p.m., Camping World Truck Series Setup: Martinsville, FS1
1 p.m., Camping World Truck Series Texas Roadhouse 200 at Martinsville, FS1
3:45 p.m., Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series final practice at Martinsville, NBCSN

Looks like Hamlin nudged out Larson right at the end for the top spot in first practice. It is so disheartening the best Larson can do in points for the season is 9th after being in 2nd when his engine blew last week. Just a totally ridiculous format they have now.

I thought he could still finish 5th?

So have pit stalls been selected yet?

Kyle looks strong. Led 10 lap in both practices.

Chase also looks to be a lot better than he gave himself credit for in that interview after the race last weekend.

Jimmie is right there. I'd probably pick him or KB to win this thing tomorrow.

As opposed to dozen or so other 3:00 / 3:30 starts this season? There must be a whole bunch of people who start drawing Social Security this week. Maybe the real problem is that 3:00 starts conflict with the Early Bird specials at Denny's.
No it conflicts with 4pm NFL

Never, ever, never count Johnson out - especially at Martinsville.

That might make sense if those involved hadn't already given viewers two hours to get involved with the 1:00 games.
A lot of people like to watch the 4pm games, they do other things earlier in the day....just saying. If this was earlier in the season I could see maybe a 3pm start, but this time of year...no.

I would assume that rain-out procedures would be followed --- line up based on point standings.

According to weatherbug, com, Martinsville is getting hit with a considerable amount of rain right about now (almost 10:00 a.m. Eastern).

Although getting the race in today looks like a go (3:00 p.m. Eastern start), getting the track dry in time to get qualifying in (scheduled for noon Eastern) is lookin' pretty iffy.

I like watching later NASCAR starts for the the exact same reason you say NFL fans like to watch 4pm starts..... other things to do during the day.

Regardless of start times I will DVR it. Previously I taped races to watch at my convenience. I no longer live my life around nascar start times. Too much to do in life.

Cowboys/redskins is the nationally televised afternoon game that brain decided to go up against. Good luck cracking the 2 million mark.

If people want to watch football, have at it. If they want to watch the grass grow, have at it.

I'm watching the race :)

maybe the footballers can post the schedule here in the Martinsville pre race thread.
Next weeks Texas race, the cowboys will be playing kc at Dallas. The Phoenix race at least doesn’t have the cardinals playing same day, and Tampa at Miami will be taking place at the same time as the season finale, but this was originally scheduled as a bye week for both teams before the hurricane, so brain cannot be blamed for the conflict.

This is the craziest qualifying I think I have ever seen. Go out and go slow, then go fast and none of it matters for pit selection.

Not sure how the 24 and 21 got bunched together with the 21 picking last but that could potentially get sticky.

If Blaney's time from last week was disallowed, he didn't get a choice of where he would pit today. He had no choice but to take what was left.
