2017 Talladega - Alabama 500 - Pre Race Thread

After reviewing the "future" weather maps, I am going to scrub the 2 hour drive
to Talladega to see the race live. There are some weird pop up showers (25%) showing up
in the mid afternoon hours before the steady showers get there at night. Its been a really busy
week and I don't have the slightest patience for even a short rain delay today. If you have ever
sat through a 2.5 hour rain delay at a superspeedway you know how un-fun they can be.
Okay, NOW I'm convinced there are some NASCAR fans who will accept only a narrow range of weather conditions. 25%? Seriously?

And yes, I have sat through 2.5 hour delays and longer, sometimes multiple delays.

In all honesty I get it. Years ago I'd wait all day waiting out a rain delay on tv. Couldn't miss a thing. "Gotta get the whole length I'm
Over the years that's faded away. I can't dfo it any more. Rain hits and its over for me foir the most part.
Any race that's past half distance when rain arrives and can't be restarted within 1 hr should be called.

It was an excruciating decision. If was'nt a little beat from a family party last nite I might of made it. I hope its nice and dry all race.

All I want to see today is a great battle up front between Dale Jr and Brad K, the best plate racer and the heir apparent. I remember stage 1 of the pepsi 400 was like that but otherwise the races have been ruined by the stages, stupid strategies, and big wrecks as the field gets jumbled up. I'd rather see the cream rise to the top and stay there to decide it between themselves and I don't care who comes out ahead.

What happened to Kyle Bush last week? Couldn't watch the race.
He crashed, then he crashed again, then he crashed again and then he spun.

Is anyone counting how often Rick Allen is gonna say that this is Jr.s last race at the track his Dad won 10 times and he won 6 times and that this is probably Jr.s last chance to win a Cup race.?

I watched most of every race during the Fox broadcasts, but Rick Allen has made it so last week was the first full cup race I've watched since Sonoma

Dunno if we have to count 'em but there are certainly some great drinking game possibilities.

btw, could NBC have stepped all over Jr.'s introduction and tribute any worse than they did ?

Looks like a painting to me. What are those tall things hanging out of Jr's and Elliots side windows?
I think the passenger side windows are not in place. Those frames are probably attached to the windows and are used to install the windows just before the race starts. Having the windows out until the last minute allows circulation and keeps the interior cooler.

100% speculation, you understand.

Makes more sense than my speculation it was to mount wheels in case of rollover.......:D

I think you are right.
