2017 Thursday Daytona Duel Day

Looks like it clears up around 7-ish.

likely no practice and the first duel will race a on green track
A green track is a good thing IMO. Not as much a difference here as elsewhere but I like it when teams have to react to the track rather than go into the event knowing the best possible setup.

It's been mentioned many times that less practice would probably produce better racing. It would certainly showcase the best overall teams having to either adapt or get lucky on the ideal setup.

Can't wait for tonight's mostly meaningless events. I still love the racing but I sure miss when these races had larger implications to the field.

Dpkimmel - could you post the Duel lineups here please. I think that was
you that had them somewhere. Thanks.

Could always just do away with the Clash and pole day and just have a 100 lap shootout on Thursday night with 40 some-odd cars to set the 500 field. Hard to get more meaningful than that.

Coming to you in 2020.

Could do away with the Duals entirely and just set the field as is done for the other 35 races.
No way. Not gir me. One of my favorite part of speeders. It's a great tradition. I miss when there use to be 60 cars trying to make the field hut it's still slot of fun and I like how the 500 has unique qualifying setup.

No need to go that far.....

Like I said, I still love the races. I just miss their importance. Guaranteed starting spots were a big part of the downfall of these races.

Remember back in the day when a failed qualifying attempt in these races meant that the team was going to have to buy a ride to make the show? It used to leave some teams scrambling at the last minute and it became a story leading into the 500. Now, the only ones that are in danger of making the show are a couple of alsorans. No offense to them, but they are teams that would not be missed by average Joe Racefan.

I guess I will pull for Sorenson since we went to the same high school - 25 years apart.

They will be racing for points in the duels. Pretty
decent article here.

Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night Areas of fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 58. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Yes, I loved the days when there were so many cars there and would see where the cut line would be on those who had to fall back on their qualifying speeds, and where the cut line would be at with the previous season's owner points as far as provisionals were concerned. In one of the categories you'd have some rather high ranking teams miss the show. Those were some fun times.

GREAT to hear the fans cheering her......love the days of thunder reference.

As she walked into the garage to prepare for Daytona 500 qualifying a couple hours later, there were loud and rousing cheers from fans acknowledging her work.

"If you're gonna have one track where I've had good races, you kind of hope Daytona is one of them or maybe the one," Patrick said. "It would be great to get a 500 win, but it's great to run up front.
"We definitely had some luck on our side today with a couple cars spinning down below (on the last lap)," Patrick said. "It felt like a 'Days of Thunder' moment where you see the smoke but hold it wide open and hopefully come out the other side. But that's the name of the game.

"

Looks good to me:

Oh well, they lost the track again. Big shower came in.
Hoping for trucks on track at 4 p.m.

Unheard of.....

They actually mentioned tonight's race's on our local sports talk show here in the Pittsburgh, PA market. Including some names from both lineups. Wow!
No matter how often I tweet our local stations about it they never bring it up. More important to talk about football in not football season to them

Off topic because there is no truck race thread but come one Norm Benning! It was nice to hear other teams helping Norm with his car in order to increase his chances of qualifying. Everybody loves Norm, a throwback kind of guy.
