2018 Michigan -- FireKeepers Casino 400 - Pre-Race Thread

"The No. 18 Toyota of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader Kyle Busch, the No. 11 Toyota of Denny Hamlin and the No. 20 Toyota of Erik Jones all failed pre-race inspection because of unapproved splitters".

Cole Pearn admitted that their advantage last year was from them being able to do different things in the splitter area. This isn't shocking that 3 Toyota teammates are busted for the same thing.

I remember that.

Here's the radar. Michigan Speedway is the (+) south of Lansing.

Hard to say whether it will rain more or not. The radar is showing the boundary of rain straddling the track.

The big batch of rain looks about 60 miles to the West and it looks to be moving about 35 miles an hour. If these showers that are currently around the track continue much longer, getting past stage two doesn't seem likely. Weather is so unpredictable. You just never know when and where a shower or storm will pop up.

Of all the races I have been to, Bristol was the only race that has ever had rain involved. And in that case, it was a complete wash out a little after the race went halfway. It'd have to suck to be at races like this where there's just light showers, but it's still enough to put the race on hold.

Edit: Maybe it's raining harder than it looks on radar. That track seems quite wet.

I meant that somehow he wound up with a different spoiler from the other JGR teams. A crew / car chief decision, I'm sure, but I wonder why the team bucked the company trend.

Pretty cool watching the footage of Dale in Japan. I miss that dude. I wonder how he’d feel about the direction of the sport today.

This x100

I've always wondered why NASCAR has not done an experimental race overseas to different venues, but that probably comes down to cost.

Especially with KCMG sponsoring RCR, a huge Chinese team in sports car racing. Give it time, not to mention the various start times.

Idk what drizzle Pockrass is talking about. It’s been completely dry for awhile now. Cold though

Absolutely, imagine the cost to transport the cars and equipment.

Here's an updated radar image. Michigan Speedway is the (+) south of Lansing.

There's a blob of rain west of the track that's pushing east. It appears to be roughly a couple of hours away, but a part of the rain blob appears to be backtracking a little.

What would this experiment try to demonstrate? If successful, what actions would the current leadership take?

Yeah!, fire them engines up,

Youd think with rain a threat NASCAR would dispense with opening ceremonies & get on with the show.
