2018 Phoenix - Ticket Guardian 500(k) - Pre Race Thread

I’m sure you would have.

After much angst about it, many didn’t and it is now a dead issue.
I honestly would have, Gateway opened up back around me for Indy Car and I feel bad I didnt go last year. So if my work allows me, I will do everything I can to go in August. I went to the last two years of racing ( NASCAR Busch Series) at Milwaukee Mile but couldnt make it to Indy Car. I dont get the angst on here towards wanting race tracks reopened that are closed, I get they failed. But to call someone out to say they didnt go when said track was open, its really hard to know whats going on in a person's life at that particular time. I like and would think its cool if North Wilkesboro opened for example, but to say " well you didnt go at all when it opened" well yea when their last race was there in 1996 I was in 6th grade, if I had the income and means like I do now to get there I would have tried to make an effort of it. I myself try to go to two Cup races a year my home track of Chicagoland and usually in another market, I will also try to attend the Indy Car races in Iowa and Gateway this year, Im not throwing out my fan card here. However I find it irresponsible to go after a guy when he says "I wish (Fill in the Blank) track was still open" when no one knows whats going on in that person's life as to why they couldnt make it to that track.

I really dont think Aunty was specifically talking about you, he was just making the point that attendance is what killed Rockingham. He's Canadian and hard to understand.

No! I wasnt offended sorry it came off that way. I can only speak for myself and was doing so in those terms.

I find it irresponsible for people to continue to wistfully hope for the re-opening of Rockingham after wistfully hoping for that before Hillenburg took it on and then failing to support him.

It closed because it was not sufficiently occupied by ticket-purchasing fans. Given another chance, those people did not buy Andy's tickets.

Like I said in the previous post, I can only speak for myself and why I didn't attend those tracks or race dates. If you find it irresponsible that I myself didnt go because of the reasons I outlined above and find it wrong that I said in a perfect world I wish those tracks would reopen... I dont know what to tell you.

It should be obvious to you that the reference is to the multitude of people who failed to show up.

If it isn’t, I don’t know what to tell you.

Well if I may, to me You made it sound like I was one of the multitude of people who failed to show up. I didnt appreciate it, so no it wasnt obvious to me. Didnt mean to come off hostile as I am in between reading your posts and working, so context isnt my strongest point right now. I like posting with you, you never are obvious its a challenge for those who are challenged in the obvious like myself.

Phoenix is an awesome track guys, understand the nostalgia with some of the closed tracks but I love the unique character of this place. Last years spring race here was awesome

Similar to this closed track...sorry had to do it:D. This use to be my real home track as I lived about 10 minutes away for a few years.

quiet as it has been kept, the Gallaghers, GMS Racing have become a force to be reckoned with in the trucks, and young Spencer has moved into the Xfinity series and isn't doing badly. I would say this is Spencer's home track..REALLY home track.

Is that Nazareth?

Yup! The second version! I can remember as a young kid going to the 1 1/8 dirt track that proceeded it until 1987. The dirt track dated back to 1910!! Nazareth was a fantastically unique place! Given the Andretti's roots in the town there was always a culture for racing. I attended every Busch race until 2001 or so. I also went to a couple Indy Car events (they often conflicted with the fall Dover race) and even an IROC race. Penske went to Lehigh University which is a few miles away. It made sense for him to invest in a track in the area. If he hadn't sold it I think it would have been better off. Like wise with Rockingham. In fact, I'd make an argument that Penske getting out of the track owning business is one of the hidden factors that hurt this sport.

Apparently when ISC bought it they had visions of Nazareth hosting a cup race should they be unable to get their foot in the NYC door. This would have cost Pocono a date as the tracks are only 30 or so miles apart. By the mid 90's Pocono had started to become really outdated and was always up for debate regarding it's future. As it turned out ISC wasted too much time on the NYC idea, never really put the resources in Nazareth to become Cup worthy and Pocono stepped up their game. By the early to mid 2000's Nazareth attendance was slipping while Pocono was pulling in 150k. It was sad when it was shut down and completely disbanded.

Nazareth and Phoenix definitely share bloodlines. They were rooted in open wheel racing. Like Pocono....
