Don't hold your breath guys.... the open tours are making serious gains here. A BUNCH of Whelen teams are dropping it next year. Too little purse and too much trekking all around the country. For many years the Tour was just the Northeast. Then they added Bristol and enough teams said "fine" and made the once-a-year trip. Now the number of southern stops is ridiculous. Only 9 teams ran every race this season....compared to 16 teams in 2019.
It is really a shame. NASCAR put a lot of money and prestige into the tour in the mid 2010s and the car counts were as healthy as the "golden years" of the 90s and 00s. All that progress has been lost and the Tour is dwindling back to its early 2010s car counts when a lot of smaller teams went to the Modified Racing Series. Now it's all about the big open shows up here. One day shows with heats, green-flag-only laps, and lap money...stuff the WMT doesn't have.
