All the teams procrastinated on the rookie practice requirement so over half the grid in FP1 will be rookies.

Biggest fights left are for 2nd (Mercedes/Ferrari) and 4th (McLaren/Aston) in the WCC and 4th-7th in the WDC.

Okay, ignorant question. Do the rookies run just practice or are they in the car for the whole weekend? What's the purpose of the requirement?

They run just the first practice session of the weekend. Testing of current cars is extremely limited these days so it’s a developmental opportunity and evaluation tool for young drivers. And if a driver wants to pay a team for a session that doesn’t hurt either, provided the team is confident enough they won’t crash the car.

The 2021 reconfiguration has helped the racing at this track a ton.
2023 was a historic season. 19 wins and two finishes of second in 22 races won't be beaten soon, Max scoring twice as many points as the driver in 2nd in the championship is incredible as well.

The racing wasn't nearly as bad as these stats would suggest, the battles for the podium positions were fun throughout the season.
Pretty incredible that Chuck and George still found time to do maths while driving.

Holy ****, Mercedes actually held on to P2.

Straight up the 4th fastest team. Thank Lewis and George for finishing the job.

Thank God this year is over. Completely uncompetitive. I hate this argument as well, one team and mostly one driver ate up so many points it reduced the rest to scraps

Agreed on the reconfiguration, this track is way faster and more racey without the clunky bits. The added sweepers allow for side-by-side racing, especially the wide long one at turn 9.

Give it some time and people will look fondly upon this season like they did the Senna/Prost McLaren era, the Schumacher Ferrari years, and the Vettel Red Bull years.

This isn’t true. The 4th, 5th, and 6th-placed teams in the WCC had higher points totals this year than last, and that’s by making progress on Ferrari and Mercedes from last season. Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Aston Martin were covered by an average of two tenths on race pace over the course of the season. There were more unique podium finishers this year (11) than last (7). The top 10-12 as a group was generally much more competitive this year.

Glad I decided to stop watching early in the season. The RedBull dominance was evident.
