2026 Chinese Grand Prix

Antonelli didn’t get away cleanly at the start and dropped to 8th, drove into the side of Hadjar, and made it back to 2nd by the lap 14 safety car. Merc have an absolute rocket.
 
The Ferrari gets off the line so well and can battle the Mercs through the yo-yo effect of the battery and overtake mode for maybe five or six laps. Once George stretches the gap beyond a second he can manage the race pretty comfortably.
 
Alight surprise to see Kimi on pole, but he's had a sprint pole last year in Miami so we know he can do it. Russel only had one timed lap in Q3 and that couldn't have helped. Still, front row lockout.

I can't imagine what's going on at Red Bull. They are utterly lost this weekend. Aside from Aston (who at least finished the sprint), this is probably the most baffling surprise so far.
 
Here's a shocker, Gasly in the lowly Alpine outqualified Max! At least today Red Bull is in trouble, but few are predicting Max won't make something out of it tomorrow. What we have seen out of him the last year or so has been pretty amazing.
 
The Aston is still vibrating like a paint shaker. You might figure Honda could sort that out but apparently, it's as bad as it ever was.


Looks like Stroll might have lost the battery, so since that was one of two left, now what?
 
Happy to have Sky F1 available on replay this week. Hope this continues. Too bad Martin Brundle wasn't there for the grid walk but it was still good.
Interesting race once again with the new cars and the many failures.
 
The pecking order at the front is pretty well established and I’m not sure it’ll change anytime soon with how big the gaps are. Fortunately, the midfield is really racey and scrappy. Regardless of the power unit stuff, the cars have a lot less aero wash and can follow a lot cleaner through the corners.

Hopefully when they institute the new compression checks that will help Ferrari close that up. I read Ferrari may go to a bigger turbo to help get some more to speed, so we could have a real fight on our hands.

Mercedes being so much further ahead of their customer teams, McLaren in particular, speaks a lot to how good the chassis is. And yes, while the PU customers get all the same hardware and software, there are things you can do differently within those from team to team. But look at how well they manage the tires and how good their long run pace is - they seem to struggle on starts and restarts, but once they’ve activated the tires they’re unbeatable. I think they’re far, far away from everybody else right now.
