56 days till the start of the next Winter Olympics but with the world cup season in full swing we're starting to see some early favorites.

Somehow, Lindsey Vonn is one of them. She returned to the sport after more than five years last winter with the Olympics in mind.
At age 40 and with a long history of injuries, literally everyone thought this was a terrible idea.

Today, she won her 83rd World Cup race, her first win since March 2018 and became the oldest winner in the women's world cup by a wide margin. The gap to 2nd in today's downhill was almost a full second.
I'm still kinda in disbelief about today's result. Looking forward to the rest of the season and especially to the Olympics.

Lindsey Vonn is a legend. She is showing the young'uns how it is done. It is absolutely amazing what she is doing. Can you even imagine going down icy ski slopes at 80 MPH with only a helmet for protection at any age let alone her age.

The science and technology is a great part of the Olympics.
Minimalist and form fitting outfits to enhance the wimmins aero are so important.

The way the wimmins can hold the posture that allows them to use their tail fin to simulate more side force
and induce yaaaaaw!

Norwegian Biathlete Sivert Guttorm Bakken has been found dead in his hotel room in Italy where he was preparing for the Olympics.
Bakken had only returned to the World Cup a month ago after missing three seasons due to myocarditis. He got 4 Top 10s and 2 Top 5s in six races this season. His most recent world cup start was last Sunday, two days before his death.

I'm sad and shocked about this and as a 24 y/o it's also quite scary when a pro athlete drops dead out of nowhere at just 27.

RIP🙁

This is completely out of left field and I just heard of this for the first time. Simona de Silvestro is aiming to qualify for the Olympics as a bobsleigh racer and just made her world cup debut.

Not sure if anyone has competed in both the Indy 500 and the Olympics but she'd definitely be the first woman to compete in both @DanicaFreak .

Well until I looked it up and realized he never ran Indy because he showed up in the US at the split I'd have said the closest be Zinardi with the Paralympics.

Lindsey has torn her anterior cruciate ligament in last Friday's crash. She will still attempt to compete in the games though. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/02/03/sport/lindsey-vonn-injury-latest-winter-olympics

The games are officially underway with the group stages in Hockey and Curling having commenced today. Tomorrow will be the first training run for the women's downhill.

Edit: The first training run will be on Friday. Tomorrow's run has been cancelled due to too much snow.

I wish her well but I just don't know how she will make it with the injury.
Absolutely amazed by her courage and tenacity.

Torn ACL my ass.

She was either playing mind games or she's from Krypton.

She's now being helicopter-ed out for the second time in 9 days.

Let's say the quiet part out loud: It was irresponsible to a) do this and b) not talk her out of this.
Running a NASCAR race with a broken collarbone is one thing, doing the Olympic downhill with a destroyed knee is another.

The ads on Peacock are very annoying.

If you’re watching multiview, you CANNOT change the audio feed when one goes to commercial. So you have to listen to the ads instead.

You have to watch an ad every time you change feeds. Or every time you open the app.

It’s $2.99 and I shouldn’t complain but it’s so frustrating that I end up tuning **** off.

Peacock cuts USA feed off mid sentence, literally, to move to another feed.

After watching more commercials, the feed hasn’t started yet so I’m watching images of Milan.

I will celebrate the day the Olympics finally leave NBC. Though they’ve been on there all my life and I don’t see it ever happening.

The average American Athlete spends over 12k per year to train and qualify for the Olympics.
Some will become celebrities and cash in, but they are probably the exceptions.
They aren't trust fund babies like Trump, no guaranteed Daddies money, they have to earn it.

It's too early for the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad thread but:

I want to go to Los Angeles, but also put in for Oklahoma City for Slalom which is one of my favorite obscure sports at the Summer Olympics.
