Do you believe? I'm not buying what they're selling. Are you?

After two previous part-time seasons, plus a full-time slate in the Nationwide Series and a 10-race dabble in Sprint Cup racing this past season, Danica Patrick makes the jump to a full-time effort in Sprint Cup competition in 2013.

While she finished 10th in her first full Nationwide season in 2012, it's pretty clear that Patrick is still in a learning mode that may take another one or two seasons as she becomes further immersed in Cup racing.

But Patrick is not making the jump to Sprint Cup competition for giggles and grins. She wants to be a serious racer and competitor—and she certainly has the ability to do that given enough time and a lot more laps and races behind the wheel of a Cup car.

Still, we feel Patrick can—and will—make the Chase for the Sprint Cup within the next three to five seasons. We're not saying she'll win the championship, though, but she should be one of the 12 Chase contenders at some point.

Here's five reasons that back up our assessment. Even if she needs a full five years before she makes the Chase, so be it. One way or another, Patrick will make the Chase. It's just a matter of time.

1. Patience and Persistence Make Perfect
2. Patrick Chose Wisely in Which Organization to Be Part Of
3. A Heck of a Mentor and Boss, and a Great Supporting Cast
4. IndyCar in Her Rearview Mirror
5. The Pressure Is on to Win

You have to look at the article to see their reasons outlined indetail.

From here.

I'm not buying this either. 58 Nationwide starts with just one top 5 finish that came in 2011. She finished 10th in final points in 2012, a year that seen only 13 cars start all 33 races. It takes consistency to make the Chase, something that she lacks. In her 58 Nationwide starts, she has shown no progression. She over corrects the car when it gets away from her, which lead to a lot of the hard wrecks she's had over the past couple years. Also they mention her patience as a reason which is funny. If Landon Cassel can rattle you, just think how Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, JJ, Brad and the rest of the top guys are gonna be able to do. I'm not gonna say she'll never win a race cause there's always fuel mileage and mother nature, but outside of that I don't see it. As far as the Chase, no way. I don't see that happening. She'll have to be better then 31 drivers over 26 races to do it and I don't see her doing that. No matter who she drives for or her mentor, it's still her ability that will be clear.

I followed Danica in Indycar. She improved every season, she finished 5th in the points in her best year. In Indycar she was never one of the drivers that would run up front every race, I rated her in the second tier of drivers. She is a competent driver.

In NASCAR she should probably stay Nationwide another year. I'm not sure how well she'll do in Cup the first year, I guessing 20th in the points would probably be about where she'll end up if she has a good season.

I'm certain that the media will make a big deal about anything she does.

I am a little disappointed as I expected more from you. :D

This article was written by the journalist who carried the torch for Mayfield long past the time the flame had been snuffed out.

I look for Danica to make the chase in 13, one way or the other....

I don't really need to add anything that hasn't been said before but if you really expect her to make the chase in 2013 then I have a few bridges to sell you :p

Danica making The Chase would be the boldest of bold predictions of all time.

Well maybe not for a writer seeking a headline. But if Danica just becomes a top 20 driver she will have a lot to be proud of it, racing is tough.

It won't be coz the lack of aerodynamics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She only drove one full season in Nationwide, I think she needed to stay down there and continue running a partial cup season again. To me the jury is still out on weather she can handle the rubbing is racing aspect of Nascar.

Lets think about this. If Danica Patrick was male named Daniel Patrick and his record was exactly what hers is, do you really think he would even be testing the Sprint Cup waters ? Not a chance. It's all because she is a female who is attractive to a wide margin of NASCAR men.

Welcome to the nuthouse.

Well, if you can attract a sponsor you're as good as in. I have no problem with here being there and wish her well. I think it's too soon for the move to Cup but it ain't up to me.

I agree but that is my complaint. She does not have the qualifications to be in Sprint Cup. She did not prove herself in the Nationwide series or in Indy cars.

Not sure there are any real qualifications. There are our expectations of what we think they should have accomplished before moving on but she's certainly talented enough to be running with these guys. She's proven that several times over and has done a pretty decent job.

First off, welcome aboard.

I do kinda have to disagree with this statement. 12th, 9th, 6th, 5th, 10th and 10th in Indycar points while she was there, in a series that has been dominated by Ganassi and Penske, neither of which she drove for.

Doesn't mean I think she is ready for Cup, but to say she didn't prove anything in Indycar is not accurate either.

I agree. Making it in NASCAR is about Sponsor dollars more than it is about talent.

Well, the same could be said of the driver of the #88 car. If his last name was Winslow, would he be in Hendrick equipment?

Nothing wrong with using an advantage if people are willing to give it to you. Nobody held a gun to Tony Stewart's head and forced him to sign her.
