600 RACE thread --- Charlotte

Such a fun day! Definitely my favorite weekend of the year. We had 50-something people show up for our annual party throughout the day, and a dozen stayed to watch the 600. Perfect weather, and I grilled dozens of burgers, hotdogs, and brats. Didn't have the chance to watch much of the race, but from what I saw, it was excellent. And I didn't get many pics throughout the day, but here's a few....

We had a great time at the race. The little lady had never been to a race before and was shocked and impressed by the show of patriotism. Couldn't have asked for better weather for all 3 races.

Only thing suprising to me was the amount of people that started leaving with 50 to go. Seriously you sat through like 4 hours of this already?

Looks like you three had a good time and that is all that really matters when you get right down to it.

I think the worst aspect of this car, compared to the older cars, is that you cannot go fast loose. That and the aero dependency seems to get worse and worse. Loose used to be fast and I believe that is why KFB struggles with this car.

It’s because it’s symmetrical. That’s why it’s so fun at the larger tracks but at the same time without that yaw to lean on once she’s gone…

I don't think some will ever understand that mainly because they don't want to so you hear it over and over. They took most of the aero gimmicks out. The flat rear quarters, all kinds of tricks underneath the cars, kinked up side skirts etc. She be symmetrical now, smooth under her skirts. No more trick uprights, duct work and 25 thousand dollar shocks.

Bingo. Everyone wants a “harder car to drive” and this one is an absolute bear on the high speed ovals. Hence why that pass to win the Coke 600 was unreal

I am wicked late to the party here because it's been a crazy week but here are my thoughts....

Prime coverage - I thought it was great. Picture was awesome and way better chemistry than FOX. I also brought a second small TV in the living room and had Chase's in-car on MAX which was a lot of fun to have both.

The Race - It was pretty good I thought. Still the same issue of one driver dominating but overall it seemed like cars could pass more than other places like Bristol which is really odd to me.

Chase - The team finally puts together a solid race - great stops and great calls by AG - Especially at the end but then Chase screws up a restart on which he started on the same row as the eventual winner. Chase knew it too and took full responsibility on the radio at the end. It's like one week he drives well enough to win but the crew messes up and then the opposite the next week. I know they will get it together but they need to figure out qualifying. This was a long race so there was time but no so much in others. It was fun watching him rocket from like 17th or so to 6th on the final run.

Larson and the Double - Unpopular opinion but I wish he'd let it go. He made pretty major driver error in both and I think he'd be better off to just pass on it next year. It's all been done anyway. Smoke already did it and completed all 1100 miles and ran top-10 in both I think. Larson still crosses that line into reckless a little too much IMO and I know some like that but it's just surprising to me he was pushing so hard so early in a 600 mile race that he hit the wall and spun all by himself. Just no need for it. Oh well - he has some wins so little else matters I guess.
