Jerry Springer Show makes inquiries to sponsor Kurt Busch
Kurt Busch’s dramatic world might not reach the level of craziness that can occur on "The Jerry Springer Show", but many fans likely would embrace the irony if the show and the Phoenix Racing team can put together a sponsorship deal.
Anything is possible and while nothing is imminent, the team has corresponded with Springer representatives.
Team general manager Steve Barkdoll, through a mutual friend, was asked by Springer representatives about NASCAR and its demographics earlier this year. The team responded with renderings of what the car could look like and the sides have had some preliminary talks, Barkdoll confirmed Monday to The Sporting News.
That’s as far as it’s gone, and the team has these types of talks with several companies.
But wouldn’t it be wild? The 2004 Cup champion known for his incredible talent but acid tongue being sponsored by the show known for its craziness and drama?
Busch, who was put on probation in May for recklessly driving through a competitor’s pit as well as having contact on pit road after the Darlington race and then was suspended for one race last week after berating a Sporting News reporter at Dover, could fit in with the Springer reputation quite well.
The talks with the team started before those incidents, and it’s unclear if those incidents would have a bearing—positively or negatively—on whether the deal comes to fruition.
Busch is scheduled to meet with Phoenix Racing owner James Finch on Tuesday about his future with the team. The team owner has said Busch needs to treat people better and take better care of the team’s equipment.
