A question about repairing or replacing a section of frame on a unibo

I have a 4cyl mustang I'm going to race in a modified 4cyl division called 4cyl sportman. The problem is the driverside trailing arm ripped away from the frame bringing some of the frame with it. My dad wants to weld 1/8 inch steel plate up there to fix it. Will this work and do you have any recamendations?
 
Guess not, I let know haw things work out. We will probably begin work on it next weekend.
