From Jayki:
  • NASCAR Unveils Air Titan 2.0: NASCAR introduced an evolution in innovation - the results of which will continue to elevate a fan's race-viewing experience to an even greater level. The Toyota-hauled next generation of Air Titan, the cutting-edge track-drying technology, made its race weekend debut at Martinsville Speedway today. Air Titan 2.0 is a more compact, more nimble and more environmentally friendly version of its innovative predecessor - one that since its introduction in February 2013 has rescued multiple races, including this year's Daytona 500. Air Titan 2.0 signals a major step forward in NASCAR's innovation cycle. It replaces the bulky support vehicles required by Air Titan 1.0 with a single, self-contained unit that's perched on the bed of a Toyota Tundra. By addressing the size of the power source, NASCAR now has the ability to deploy up to 21 units in Toyota Tundras at larger venues and operate more efficiently on smaller tracks. The Air Titan 2.0 more than triples the blade capacity of the original version and deliver 2.6 times more air volume at a speed of 568 mph, while raising the air temperature by 70 degrees over ambient. With the combination of water removal and accelerated evaporation, the ultimate goal is to reduce track-drying time by 80 percent. Air Titan 2.0 will consume nearly 80 percent less fuel and emit 80 percent less carbon dioxides. Air Titan 2.0 works in conjunction with the Eco-Infused Elgin Track Vacuum/Sweeper and existing jet dryers. In coordination with the roll out of the Air Titan 2.0, Elgin has now become the Official Sweeper of NASCAR Green.(NASCAR)(3-29-2014)

Posted this pic of it earlier in the pre race thread with ATII on its way to the speedway.

so nascar's big air Titan announcement is that they found some corporate sucker to haul the thing around for them, and pay a bunch of money to be the 'official Titan mule of nascar'?

This Brian fella is a genius.

Not sure about Brian but I think this is a great thing for the sport. I guess when you sit through a few more track drying efforts you might see it differently. Then again, probably not.

lol I'm just having some fun with sir Brian. You need to have a BL and loosen up a little.

Air Titan did it's part at Bristol, but the unit that did the most good (by FAR) was the single jet dryer that had the modified cowl that points the air straight down. It was drying the track completely in a single pass. Air Titan helped by blowing water off, but it didn't dry the track. All the other jet dryers are a waste.

Sounds like a good thing to me. A lot less equipment on the track and a quicker drying time.

When Mike Helton spoke about the Air Titan 2.0 at our meeting he said that in other outdoor sports (NFL, MLS, NHL sometimes) they play no matter the conditions (barring lightening). NASCAR wants to be as close as possible to that. They want their fans to watch a race that they paid to see on the day they arrived. So they put alot of R&D into making technology that cuts drying time dramatically so we can get cars on the track on Sat night or Sunday afternoon. Looks like they are doing a wonderful job. That effort at Bristol was awesome.

Only down side is they used a Toyota. It might not have any tire issues but the engine might not survive for long ;)

The much smaller size is a major improvement. And of course Nascar got a corporate partner. Nascar gonna Nascar.

I can't see what they are using to generate the air pressure but it almost has to be a positive displacment blower, think supercharger on a car same thing. These are used in industrial application to create vacuum but they also can be used to put out air at great force. no one will believe me here but this is what I thought they should be using to push the air all along instead of giant air compressors. I am in the carpet cleaning industry and these blowers are what create the vacuum for our machines. we will see if I am right when more pictures are out there that show the machines in more detail.

i agree. here's a possibility..... not a lotta room under canopy on new titan 2 trucks.

maybe even blower.... powered by electric motor .....run off batteries...charged by hi tech alternator on truck.?
gives toyota -n- nascar good eco cred too.

FS1 did a short piece on the Titan 2.0 and said it was a small block Chevy in the Toyota bed.You could just make out the top of the engine in the shot.

Is it just me or does everybody think this Air Titan BS is worthless.

They either never have it there on time and when they do they still take just as long as the normal time when it rains and they attempt to dry the track.

Short of putting superdome on the tracks you ain't gonna stop rain.

What a waste of money.

Probably why the used a chevy motor in the rear.To make sure there was something capable to get the work done.Even if they have to tow it around the track.

At least they still have great uses for the pre Air Titan era. Melting the snow off the track in Michigan.

I really hope our brutal winter has aged the track surface at MIS and allow for multiple grooves and a tire that actually wears.
