All-Time Greatest Driver (NASCAR, F1, Indy and Sprint Cars) Bracket - Vote!

Ridiculous contest really. Nigel Mansell and Fangio will end up losing to far lesser drivers due to popularity. Michael Andretti is ahead of Mansell right now which is absolutely ridiculous. And Danica being 50/50 with Fangio is asinine! Fangio is one of the greatest drivers of all time and Danica has one win in a major racing series.

I agree that fans will screw things up. Destined to frustrate almost everyone. I think the finalist could have been chosen more carefully or better.

But it is an interesting format and brackets.

all I needed to see about this poll being nothing more than a site created to generate ad revenue based number of clicks ( anyone else tired of slide shows?) was that kenseth received votes against dale Earnhardt.

sorry matt. i'm a fan, but this should be unanimous. guess the anti-Earnhardt crowd lives after all these years...
This, the bit about the ad revenue. I'd change Matt's cats' litter boxes, but Ironhead is a no brainer.

Many of these drivers are legends in their chosen format, but how many have mastered multiple car types, track styles, race lengths, etc. Who can be mentioned in the same breath with Foyt and Andretti?

I can't belive the selection committee put Danica in over Ricky Stenhouse Jr. what a travesty

The "selection committee" was probably some 22 year old guy in his mom's basement giggling like a little girl while he made it out. That's fine with me, I think that It's just to have fun with and that's what I'ma gonna do. :D

Al Unser Jr leading over Lee Petty so far 51 to 49 %. It just doesn't seem right.

I understand the why after reading the link. Along with driver accomplishments.....its about impact. She is the first woman to do a lot of the things she has done

DISCLAIMER I am still unsure about it all. Makes me uncomfortable.

From the link
ow before we reveal the first matchups, let’s take a moment to look at what makes a driver great.

  • Success – Wins and championships are the easiest way to determine how great a driver was in most cases. It’s hard to argue how great a driver is when they have never won a title. That being said, remember that some of the greats in other sports like Dan Marino and Charles Barkley never won titles.
  • Career – Often times greatness happens over a long period of time as opposed to a couple of good years. When voting do you best to take in a drivers full body of work.
  • Impact – Sometimes the greatness of a driver is measured in the impact that they have on the sport. Very few athletes have transcended sports but there are some drivers in this bracket that have done just that. Their popularity and the impact that they have made mean more than any number of wins or championships.

It has to be either Foyt or Mario Andretti, they have all the statistics, in all forms of racing not just one roundie round cars.

Mansell's still running behind Michael Andretti. I think some of the voters don't know the difference between Michael and Mario. ;)

Just remember... when it's all set and done... whether you consider the championship format "legitimate" or not... there's a good chance Jimmie Johnson will have over 100 wins in the most competitive era in NASCAR. Pretty freak'n astounding.

A fuel mileage win at that.

Thats why I understand why shes there but Im not fully on board.
She would be better in a bracket for drivers that have had an impact on the sport. Heck, I'm a huge Junior fan, and while I do think he's among the top 64 drivers, he's definitely not in the same category as many of those in the bracket.

Name recognition is all, really. Anyone who even vaguely remembers Michael's McLaren stint wouldn't vote for him.
