Allen Bestwick also out at ESPN

Bestwick ........... is that the dude that tries to talk over the sound of the race cars ? I have never heard a word he said

It was one of those wins where I remember where I was and what I was doing.
In this case, I and my family were visiting relatives in NW Iowa and I found a
tv in a back bedroom to watch the race. You know us race addicts will find a
tv if there is a race on even if we are the only race fan in the bunch.

Rick Allen isn't bad, when I think of the Truck Series I think of his calls. I'd prefer him over Vince Welch & AA.

Sorry for Bestwick, Punch and others getting dumped. But this bubble busting moment is something that had to happen.
A market that would have kept on escalating the cost of satellite and cable service and forcing fans to buy unwanted packages.

Sooner or later the purging will start with the Nascar broadcast teams as well.

I hate to see anyone lose as job and I hope Bestwick can get a new gig soon soon but in an area where I don't have to look at him or listen to him.

Bestwick started calling races Seekonk, his mom drove him because he was too young to have a drivers license. And he was good!

A little factoid. His grandparents had a summer place near us, one day he fell off the dock into deep water and my brother fished him out.

ESPN going out of business or what? They are firing everyone we know.

The layoffs of over 100 people at ESPN, including some of their most recognizable and accomplished journalists, has shaken the sports world and created what for non-sports fans must be a puzzling level of grief across social media. It is worth explaining what we are losing, and what it says about my profession as well as the ruptured wall between journalism and entertainment.

This is sad to me.

In an era of fake news and yipping heads, it has never been more precarious to be a journalist. You really have to love this work to endure it, but that doesn’t mean we have to endure its indignities. The people who have been laid off from ESPN have uniformly taken the highroad on social media and said incredibly classy things about their former employer. They should be commended for this, but I think a little anger would not be out of place. It’s righteous to be angry about being treated this way, all for the high-minded purpose of placating the stock market. To say nothing is to accept it as the way it has it be. It reminds me of the old story of the frog in the pan of cold water who slowly dies as the heat is turned up to boil, and they just quietly die. If journalism is going to die, let’s not be content to be boiled alive. Let’s not be content to go quiet into that good night. The stakes are too high.

I remember when he hosted Inside Winston Cup with Michael Waltrip, Ken Schrader and Johnny Benson. He had quite the job keeping Waltrip and Schrader on topic.

ESPN fired their best football analyst in Trent Dilfer and best college basketball guy in Andy Katz. I already barely watched, now if I'm not watching a game I'm boycotting the network.
Trent "the Patriots aren't good anymore" Dilfer

Stephen A Smith makes over 3 million a year and Jemele Hill makes over a million

I'd like to see that brought back, with new drivers obviously. I liked the way that they broke the race into pieces and let the drivers analyze and give insight on what was happening.

Bestwick did a good job of controlling Michael Waltrip's worst tendencies. I think that they'd do well in a booth together.

If I was in charge, NBC should sign up Bestwick yesterday for their NASCAR/Motorsports Boradcasts. He'd be great at Indy Car, keep Diffy for F1 and when NASCAR portion starts up to do Indy Car. I'd put Bestwick, Dale Jr and Letarte in the booth with Rick Allen and Jeff Burton as studio host/pre race/ during race analyst.

Allen Bestwick, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Steve Letarte. :)

Hearing ESPN is going all Erik Jones all the time.

Makes sense.

Maybe it was me, but Bill Weber came off as extremely unlikeable and arrogant. He had that face that was begging to get punched.

I liked Bill Weber as a pre-race host. Honestly, he was alright as PxP. There have been worse. Remember when Todd Harris called the Indianapolis 500?

"Fifty years from now, you will remember where you were when Danica Patrick made not only motorsports history, but she joined the likes of Amelia Earhardt and Sally Ride in a barrier-breaking performance."

No, Todd, not really.
