Steve Kosiski put his name in the record books on Sunday night as he picked up the win in the annual Alphabet Soup Race at I-80 Speedway @ Nebraska Raceway Park for his first win of the O'Reilly MLRA 2006 Thunder Tour. The triumph was the fourth career O'Reilly MLRA victory for the Papillion, NE driver.

Kosiski came down the to the green flag on the outside of row one and battled with polesitter Kelly Boen throughout the first lap for the top spot. The pair battled side by side until Kosiski made a run coming off of turn two of the second lap and powered in front of the Henderson, CO driver to take the point.

The field was slowed for three caution periods by the time twenty laps were in the books, but Kosiski had found the line that would keep him at the front each time.

As the race approached the halfway point Kosiski and Boen had broken away from the rest of the pack and began to make their way through lapped traffic. Clint Smith began to reel in the leaders as he worked his way up from starting 17th and found himself in the thick of things as the trio worked through traffic with ten laps to go. On the final lap Smith would find himself working to the inside of Boen as the pair headed down the backstretch. Kosiski held on to race under the flag first with Boen just edging out Smith for the runner up position. John Hampel came across the line in fourth as Denny Eckrich held on to round out the top five.

Al Purkey, Ben Schaller, Alan, Vaughn, Kelly Boen, Brian Harris, Johnny Bone, Jr., and Chris Simpson were able to pick up the wins during the seven heat races held. Clint Smith, Jason Utter, and Bryant Goldsmith were able to move on to the feature event by virtue of the B feature wins.

In addition to the $5,000 winner's check that Kosiski received he also picked up a $5,000 bonus from Afco Shocks as the event was part of the Afco M2 $100,000 Challenge. The bonus is paid out at select events thru the 2006 season where the winner will pick up the bonus for utilizing Afco M2 shocks and Afcoil Coil-Over springs on all four corners of their race car. This Alphabet Soup race was the first of two O'Reilly MLRA events where the winner will be eligible for the bonus payout. August 5, 2006 at Junction Motor Speedway will play host to the second event.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a double event weekend as US 36 Raceway, in Osborn, MO, will play host on June 9 and then travel to Wheatland, MO for the grand opening of Lucas Oil Speedway on June 10.
