And that's why

I'm not an Elliott fan, and I have no objection to inversions in general. My objection is strictly to the inconsistency of its use. Why does the second race of a weekend require a different method of setting the lineup than the first race of the weekend, or of the race the following weekend?
how about they're trying it to see if it works? They have been doing it with double headers since covid the whole season and this is the first time anybody started yapping about it. It was a non issue until Elliott crashed out..and being so, it was not really adding anything to the racing and nobody was noticing it. I personally think they aren't going to do it anymore when they have a season without double headers.

Ah, but do we know they're not going to have a season without double headers? The Pocono double was already on the 2020 schedule pre-COVID, and supposedly was a long-term arrangement.

If they were just trying it, they could have inverted the previous race's order on any weekend. Double-headers weren't required to test it. I don't see what ties the two together and I hope if doubles continue that they aren't viewed as inseparable. Pick one way or another to set a line-up and stick with it. There are still opportunities for NASCAR to pick up new fans while other sports are still at half-speed, but new fans are probably confused by inconsistent rules for something as basic as who starts where.

probably trying to draw interest for the second race...nobody cared or seemed to notice until Elliott

Before this thread, I figured I was the only one. Again, I'm not opposed to it like others, just pick a method. Next week we'll have drivers spin the wheel, buy a vowel, or guess the puzzle.

I vote spin the wheel.

It was the last invert for this year, so keep your cards and letters coming for next years starting position ideas. I'm going with starting in reverse and a Bo and Luke Duke half spin turnaround

Yeah, you probably would ...

Cup cars start based on the finishing order of Xfinity cars that have the same car number. If no Xfinity car has your number, then finishing position of last race for Trucks, ARCA, IndyCar, IMSA, F1, Formula E, and Greenville-Pickens, in that order of precedence.

My bad...I didn't put a smiley face so you didn't know I was joking.:owquitit:

Kurt started last and wound up in 13th.
Drivers have had to start from the middle or back of the field before, for a variety of reasons. Mediocre qualifying run, failed inspection, driver change, back-up car. It ain't an automatic reservation with the 'roll back' truck like some seem to think. Early accidents have been know to happen to guys who start up front, too.
