Call me when she can beat Tony Kannan head to head driving 220 mph. And sorry, winning a few hillbilly races doesn't mean that Johanna is more talented than anyone else. She only got attention for those things because she is a girl with very slightly above average looks.

Can't believe I'm sticking up for Danica here but until Johanna Long proves she can run in NASCAR or any other major series, like IRL then she hasn't proved that shes better then Danica.

Exactly. Winning a couple of races at the Podunk County Fair is hardly the same as running in the IRL.

You two are ignorant. The Snowball Derby and the Martinsville 300 are the granddaddy and grandmother of SLM and LMSC races. 80-something cars show up to those races. And I know a lot of "hillbilly" racers who could run circles around most of those NASCAR guys. Philip Morris, Lee Pulliam, Dustin Storm, CE Falk to name a few.

Danica Patrick won 0 races and 0 championships before going to IndyCar. It's like saying Alli Owens (who I like and also has 0 wins/championships) should get a Cup ride with a top team.

It's not the same though as running in IRL or NASCAR and to say that Long has more talent then Patrick because Long won some late model championships and races doesn't prove anything and come on Andy, you know that's true.

I have nothing against Long. I'd actually love to see another female come in and win before Danica.

Long's proven more before getting a Truck ride than Danica proved before getting her IRL ride.

I'm not gonna argue with that cause I do believe it's partially true. She has proven that she is an average to mediocre driver but that being said, until Long actually does better then Danica, you can't say for a fact that Long is better then her.

Who, the drivers I mentioned? Because they look and talk like your typical backwoods rednecks and don't have the Kasey Kahne/Jimmie Johnson looks that are required to be a NASCAR driver.

And if you don't know who Philip Morris and CE Falk is, you're more ignorant than I thought. Falk won the final Denny Hamlin Showdown that was run at Southside... he beat a ton of Cup drivers to do it... including Kyle Busch.

Sure I can. The only reason Danica will outperform Long is because Long's in a backmarker car and Danica's in the best equipment in Nationwide. Even then, Long will still have several better finishes because Danica will crash a lot.
 
If Danica had the misfortune of having to slum it at the county fairs and short tracks she may have kicked some ass. But we will never know. She had the sense to capitalize on every opportunity that came her way and is now an international celebrity with millions of dollars in the bank. To turn all that down so she could earn credibility with a bunch of us dorky race fans who spend our spare time posting on a message board may have not been a good career move.
 
If you put Long and Danica in equal equipment on any short track in America, head to head for 50 laps, Danica would finish 5 laps down.

For the sake of arguing for the hell of it, if you put them both in an indy car then obviously Danica is going to finish way better then Long in a 50 lap race as well, especially if it's on a road course.

Yeah, like 99.999999% of race fans, I don't care about that.

But I do love local short track racing. There is one about 3 miles from me where I attend about 10 races per year. Tim Fedawa and Gordon Johncock are the biggest names to come out of here.

Since we shall never agree on this and we both feel that we are correct I am just gonna drop it. I've already thrown a couple of low blows here and it's not something I feel good about. Racing is supposed to be fun and I don't think insulting you and/or short track drivers is fun or fair.

The funny thing is that I like Johanna and always check to see where she's running. I even follow her on Twitter. I would love it if she landed a good ride and got some attention. Hopefullyb it will happen for her soon. :)

Johanna Long could outperform Danica every week and still wouldn't get any coverage, that's how it is. Simona de Silvestro deals with the same stuff in IndyCar. And the difference between Simona and Danica is that Simona's actually a nice person.

I think that you are right on. Anyone who dislikes Danica because of the media attention she gets , or the commercial endorsements she attracts ,or the lack of county fairs she ran, or how pretty she is , is just plain nuts. I am going to try not to read any more posts on Danica . There is no point to them.

I think Pastrana knows that his daredevil days are numbered and that he is being provided a great opportunity with his NASCAR deal. He's a smart guy and a hard worker so I think he will take it very seriously. We'll just have to wait and see if it translates into any kind of long term NASCAR success. I think it would be cool if he started running well.

Oh Right ..like no other Nascar driver does that .I am sure that their media rep trains them to keep talking till the red light goes off .Thats why some of those great short track drivers will never make it to Nascar , They can't handle the microphone . TV TIME=MONEY.

I'd rather hear her talk than Jeff Burton or Carl Edwards. Those guys are always blathering on and on about something boring. Plus she looks good in HD. haha

There is a local kid name Chad Finley here in mid Michigan who drove some ARCA races for Brad Keselowski Racing in 2010. He did really well and led some races but blew like 3 engines. But the kid is in dire need of some media training and someone to give him a decent haircut. You just have to be the whole package these days.

I remember hearing JG dropping F-Bombs on his scanner during the first Cup race I attended in 2002 and being all stunned. haha

I can only imagine the scrutiny a driver must deal with when it comes to big to big time sponsorship. Especially an unproven driver. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at a board meeting where they are choosing between drivers. It makes me wonder if Brian Vickers is getting backlash for his the stuff he said in his Maxim interview last year where he talked about getting black out drunk and banging women by the bus load. And doesn't that contradict his allegiance to Mitt Romney? haha

Exactly, when Cobb does actually attempt to run in a race she can't even keep up and stay on the lead lap. I've seen her try to qualify(trucks and NW)and some of those attempts have been pathetic. I don't know what her past accomplishments are to get her to this point, I'm not going to bother to look it up, but IMO she doesn't belong in NW or Trucks. Long has more talent than Cobb, I'll give her that, maybe if she can run consistenly in the top 20 in NW she will get some more attention. Danica got the intial attention because whe proved she could consistenly run in the top 10 in Indy Car. I believe there was only one season she didn't finish in the top ten in points.

Was is Long who broadsided the guy in truck practice a while back ? I thought she was a pretty good racer before that but (like a lot of racers before her )she lost a step after that accident.
 
What does a win do for you? The driver of the Cup pace car is Brett Bodine. Does anyone know for sure if he ever won a Cup race? But back to the subject at hand. It really seems that much of the opinions are not based on real facts, but based on personal bias. If we could look at all the drivers not from the standpoint of human sexuality, but rather as a driver, just how many of those in the big race would get a good review? The reviews would be a wide and variable as anything could be. Just using that stats for those drivers only. Keep in mind that when you are racing in the Cup series, you are at the top. Many have come with championships, wins and accolades from lower series but failed to make a dent at the top. I'm sure y'all remember names like Skinner, Grissom, Benson, T. Bodine and more. Then there are those who have risen to the top level not doing so much in the lower series. Take Jimmie Johnson for instance. He was nothing but a journeyman driver in the Busch Series, but someone saw that he had talent. Guess they were right. I can still hear all the nay sayers talking about what a goof it is to move Jeff Gordon up to the Cup level. My point is, now is a great time to speculate on how well Danica does, but there will be someone who will eat their words one way or another, whether she is a success or not.

Won an Indy car race in Japan
IRL Rookie of the Year 2005
Indy 500 Rookie of the Year 2005
Led indy 500 Finished ( sorry I don't remember what year thats was? )

Hell I'd hire a driver with that resume! Lot of drivers in Top Equipment have much less.
As far as the whole sexist thing....If you don't think I would'nt a wore a banana hammock to get a Top Ride in my day....Your Wrong!!!
