Are plate races harmful to Nascar?

Plate races are obviously good for nascar. Just look at the attendees
..

Simple racing, for simple people. Your casual fans don't want to learn and know all the nuances that go into stock car racing, they just want to see cars go fast and occasionally see a good crash, that's why these Super Speedways have good attendances.

Clearly the problem with Nascar is Daytona and Talladega, the two most popular tracks that make the most money and sell the most tickets.

Related questions -- are the New York Yankees bad for baseball? Should the NBA disband the LA Lakers? Is Wimbledon ruining tennis? Are The Masters destroying golf? Is the Kentucky Derby harming horse racing?

Disband the Lakers? Why would they want to do that? Its fun as hell seeing them self distruct like they have been. Amirite @DUN24? :XXROFL:

I'm sorry, which team do you pull for? I think we oughta do a ring count.

Typical response like them Yankees folks. Counting rings and championships from the 20s and a time period you weren't even around.

You and @FLRacingFan deserve each other. lol

Oh god do not compare me to a yanks fan. They are WAY more obnoxious than I.

Are you a Celtics fan? Why aren't you repping NY like all your neighbors?

Umm no.

I like my city but the teams leave alot to be desire about. Yankees are to pretentious for my taste and the Knicks are a laughing stock. I'm a Spurs fan. I am classy. :)

Only team I like out of this state are the Mets and even they are an abortion.

Well this thread derailed a bit.

I think a lesser engine package without a limiter would make for some great racing on super speedways. I enjoy watching them in their current form but I wouldn't mind having just Daytona to kick off the year and replacing the other superspeedway dates with road course (That'll never happen).

Leave the plate tracks, get rid of some of the cookie cutter tracks (1.5-2 mile) and bring some more short track racing. I also think one of the road courses should be in the chase.

And casual fans are where the money's at.
Has nothing to do with casual fans being "simple people". That's a stupid, dumb thing to say.
Casual fans just have other things they care about more. So, yeah, they are less willing to put in time learning nuances of a sport. They could, they just don't care enough to bother.

Same way casual baseball fans want to see homeruns, casual NBA fans want to see dunks, etc, etc.

If you know more subtleties and nuances about your favorite sport than casual fans, all that means is you have more free time and are more interested than they are. Says nothing about who is "simple" or not.

The RP tracks are not my favorite, but they aint going nowhere.

The only thing that can stop them is a flying car making a soft landing and bringing on Lemans 1955/ 2.0.

I hope it never happens, spectator deaths would be tragic. On a smaller note it would be devastating to Nascar and the horrified public would have the right to consider prosecution. Also many fans, sponsors, etc would decide they were through with racing.

I agree. These tracks aren't going anywhere soon. The racing isn't going to get any better and the drivers are never going to like plate racing.
