Article on NASCAR buying ARCA. Could be good.

This could turn out to be some pretty good stuff, in my view. I would love to see some of the lower tiered series go back to some of the old NASCAR stomping grounds. Hickory, North Wilkesboro, Nashville Fairgrounds, the Rock, etc. I'm thinking if these touring series would put on some good short track shows, it could generate interest at the local level. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I see this as a step in the right direction. What say y'all? The article is linked below.

Yep there is an article posted under ARCA earlier about that format change, this one above explains it pretty well also. The new schedule is out and they are going to one different track for next year. I think the consolidation races next year at the end of the season will be pretty good getting all of the better teams together for a run off.
    2019 schedule
After a busy year for the series, ARCA released its 2019 schedule with a return to an old track on the schedule and a new date for an existing track.

Sounds like the ARCA Series is going to visit older tracks that NASCAR left behind like the Rock, Wilkesboro (If it can be rebuilt), South Boston and Myrtle Beach which is damn awesome. I hope the series operates as a throwback to what stock car racing was...hope the races can be found on TV. I actually like ARCA as it is now, imo it is the closest right now to the NASCAR I grew up watching. But I’m excited for these changes.

ARCA as well as the K&N pro series and Nascar modified tour have already been going to tracks like that for quite a while. ARCA had four or five races at Rockingham. k&n also had a race at Rockingham fairly recently and still goes to South Boston every year. The modified tour goes to Myrtle beach every year and is returning to South Boston next year.
These series have been going to tracks like that all along. Some of the best racing in NASCAR is in those series (including ARCA)

Are the track and facilities too far gone? I love that place.

    N.W. is done
The Rock is hosting "Epicenter" which is a major 3 day Rock concert that generates crazy amounts of revenue. Tickets were upwards of 500$! Not out of the question.. MB is slowly making progress, great competition but the track surface is rough and the stands still don't look that great in attendance or appearence. But I could see arca running some events regardless. Never been to SoBo or nashville, we'll see.

While I agree with you for the most part, did you look at the 2019 schedule? Nashville's already on it.

NW is bread that's been singed on both sides. Get over it, people.

500 bucks for 3 days? I better be seeing Led Zep, The Doors with Jim Morison and Ray M reincarnated plus Pink Floyd, Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry and The Stones.

Just looked up some info on this, I remember it being announced by the guys that bought it and they made it sound like they were going to be utilizing the facility for that festival. NOT! Just using it all for the land.

That looks like they're using the drag strip property for the actual festival. That used to be a completely separate facility with no business connection with the oval track; maybe that's changed?

I'm not sure if the 'Campgrounds' in the upper right are part of the oval track property. There used to be a private campground back there. That's a long hike from the festival area, with no lights for most of it. That'll be fun for the drunk / stoned / otherwise impaired.

People going better pack their coolers and stock up on munchies. It's 20 minutes to the nearest grocery in Hamlin.

Probably need to look again. The plans for Rockingham have always included other events in addition to racing. The persons involved buying it are in the entertainment business.

I honestly didn't know how bad it was. I'm always nostalgic for Wilkesboro. It was one of my favorites. I loved the schedule when it included the old Richmond track, two events at Wilkesboro, plus two each at Martinsville and Bristol. Long gone, I know. Still has six of those eight races, just a different Richmond though.

WOW!!! The worst thing for a car is not to be drove and maintained, I guess you could say the same about old race tracks.

They’ve been running ARCA at Nashville since 2015. I’ve been to all but one of those races, usually draws a pretty good crowd.

That didn't go over my head.

What I'm saying is in his interview he made it sound like they were going to immediately begin upgrades to the actual facility so that they could use it for this festival, not the land around it. Kinda like how Daytona has the Country 500 inside of the actual racetrack.

New Rockingham Speedway owner reaches out to NASCAR
North Carolina track's renovation will take three years

    Key word Around the speedway
The Rock Entertainment Complex will be thematically based on the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, located around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The EDC welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees for weekends of music, art and other live performances alongside carnival rides.

Lovenheim hopes that by making The Rock a year-round entertainment facility, he will be better equipped to support occasional motorsport events.

I think we all agree on what they said, and I don't thing anyone has a problem with a multi-use facility. What's puzzling is the promotional materials show they're holding the festival across the street on someone else's property. That includes the Google map on their web site, clearly labeled as Rockingham Dragway. They don't mention the oval property at all, except as free camping.

EDIT: "North Carolina track's renovation will take three years"

I wouldn't have thought it would take three years to hold an outdoor festival. The web site seems to indicate everything is being brought in, with no indication of using any of the drag strip's fixed structures. They've got to be paying rent, and probably a slice of the profits. You'd think they'd want to keep that in their pockets.

Interesting. Regardless, it isn't cars going around in circles, so I won't be contributing to the rebuilding fund.

oh B.S. who cares about the freaking drag strip, 2 sweet and I weren't talking about that anyway. They probably rented or leased it, be pretty stupid to not do so.

I'm trying to figure out why they're not having it on their own property and saving the rental expense, that's all.

Save The Speedway on FB and Twitter paint a picture of it not being that bad.....if only I could win the lottery. Your above posted picture puts things in perspective, as much as I’d love and wish to have any kind of racing there that place’s time is quickly passing if it hasn’t already. Those what look to be suites or media booths look they are about to fall over any minute now. A real shame, but at least Kansas Speedway hosts two races a year.
