JOE MILLER TO BUY LAFAVRE RACING TEAMS!

Joe Miller the owner of home building company "Country Joe Homes" is in the process of purchasing the entire LaFavre Racing Teams organization from long time ASA team owner Scott LaFavre. What began as Mr. Miller being a principle backer of the LaFavre teams for the 2002 ASA Racing Series season will turn into full ownership of the teams and entire LaFavre racing facility.
Joe Miller has been involved in racing over the last several seasons sponsoring his son Joey and a number of other teams at the Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota. In 2001 Joe sponsored a Danny Fredrickson effort at the Minnesota State Fair and became very impressed with the series at that time. Initially the 2002 sponsorship agreement was for Joey Miller to run the NASCAR Remax series and a number of other races including early season races at the New Smyrna track in Florida. Veteran ASA competitor Kevin Cywinski was to race the full ASA Series schedule for the team.
With the announcement by NASCAR that no one would be allowed to race in their series that wasn't eighteen years of age, plans changed dramatically for young Joey Miller and his father. The new plan called for Joey to run eight ASA races in preparation for a run for the Pat Schauer "Rookie of the Year" title in 2002 under the tutelage of Cywinski. In addition, the elder Miller elected to sponsor the NASCAR Remax race at Elko Speedway and also the first ever ASA race that was held at that track. Joe Miller was INVOLVED and he loved it.
During the course of the 2002 ASA season Scott LaFavre, for a number of reasons, decided to begin limiting his very successful racing activities. A growing family was requiring more of his time as was his commercial real estate business. Negotiations began for Joe Miller to initially buy just the racing assets of the LaFavre Racing Teams which was to include one of the two buildings on the LaFavre property. As discussions continued it became apparent to both parties that the best situation would be for Miller to acquire the entire LaFavre property including two homes, twenty-five thousand feet of shop space, a one eighth mile paved go cart track, a sport court and four hole golf course.
The very involved purchase will be completed in the near future. The current plans call for Joey Miller to run another eight race ASA season, some NASCAR Elite Series races and many other events over the 2003 racing season. Quality seat time is a major consideration for Joey this year. Kevin Cywinski will again be Country Joe Racing's "Top Gun" going into the 2003 ASA Series season. There is a possibility, if sponsorship can be acquired, of a third Country Joe Racing Team in ASA for the coming season.
The Country Joe Racing organization has recently revamped the racing facility. All of the race cars that are being refurbished, rebuilt or repaired are now housed in one building. The original building houses administrative offices, a show room for completed cars, conference room and the rear of that building will be home to miscellaneous functions of the organization. It give the teams a more efficient place to build and repair race cars.
Currently, work is ongoing rebuilding all of the twenty-one race cars in the Country Joe Racing fleet. There are cars being rejuvenated for several different series including, ASA, NASCAR Elite, MARS the Florida Super Series and Elko Speedway late models. It is a very busy facility.
There are a number of teams members returning to the organization and the teams are looking for mechanics and the always critical group of volunteers. Mike Chaffee returns to Cywinski's team along with veterans Kurt Danko and Mike Resop. Volunteers returning includes Jason Miner and Dan Miller. Chaffee and Resop were named to the 2002 ASA All Star pit crew for ASA in 2002.
Racing veteran Dick Melius who joined the organization in 2002 will continue in his role as the Special Events/Marketing Manager for the Team. Mike O'Brien, who has been with the organization since 1996, returns to his role in Sponsor Relations and produces the material for the Country Joe web site.
