AT&T Buys DirecTV for $48.5 billion

The funniest thing about the timing of this to me is that, at this very moment, I have a guy named Justin is here switching me from DirecTV to U-Verse. I am saving like $63 a month by doing so. I already had U-Verse for my internet, but I've had DirecTV since 2004. I recently realized I was paying way too much for each after my introductory offer period with U-Verse internet expired, so I called to bundle. They were going to save me about $29 and give me a lot more channels, which was a good deal, but not great so I didn't take it. I waited a week or so and called back. The next guy offered me the same package but offered me another $35 or so a month off, so I took it that time.
 
I just wish we could get cable/ sat at a decent price with out playing games
My direct bill is pushing 113 month.
 
Whenever these mergers take place it means less competition and generally an increase in charges at the user level for the "improved" services.

Yeah, living in rural areas can drain your wallet just for basic stuff. I just mentioned in another thread about my internet - satellite internet. At $50/month, I get 7.5 GB down and 2.5 GB up per month which, in this day and age where the AVERAGE website is 1.3 MB and operating systems on computers, tablets and smartphones are constantly running in the background for updates, anyone can blow through that in a week without even watching YouTube videos or stuff like that. Since my job involves using the internet, this is causing me severe headaches every day.

That's exactly where I was at. We must have had identical packages. I had been paying another $61 a month for my at&t U-Verse after my introductory 12 month period $34.95 a month offer ended. I called U-Verse and they offered me a package that included the U300 TV package with the same really fast internet I have for $140/month including HD charges. When I called back they offered me the same package but they said if they treated me as a completely new customer (one that didn't already have their internet) they could offer me the same package for $105 a month. Somehow that turned into $116 a month after fees, but you know how that goes. It still saved me a hell of a lot over what I had and I have a hell of a lot more channels including all kinds of free movie channels like Starz, Showtime, Movie Channel, and other stuff that are all part of the U300 package and I keep those as long as I have the package. There are a lot of other cool features like free shows and music videos that they didn't even tell me about. The installer showed us how to find them while he was here.

Be careful with Uverse. I won't go back to AT&T. I loved their HD line up, but that bill will double if not more after your plan is up.
