Interesting, though lengthy, video about the 2021 reconfiguration of Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Hopefully the track wear has increased a bit this winter and it will be less of a plate track this year.

No changes to the tires.

Notes – Cup cars return to Atlanta on 2024 tire set-up: Being on 18-inch bead diameter tires, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series at Atlanta this weekend . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires that these teams ran at Atlanta twice last season . . . this is the only track at which these teams are scheduled to run either of these two Goodyear tire codes . . . with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.

Goodyear quote – Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of global race tires: “We head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the second race of 2025, so that gives us two superspeedway races to open the season. Since they reconfigured Atlanta a few years ago and added it to the superspeedway group of tracks, it has produced some of the best racing on the NASCAR circuit. And while it used to have the most abrasive surface we raced on, the repave has made it one of the smoothest.”

Not crazy about two drafting tracks, too many mile and a half tracks, too many road courses, have you tried watching golf because there are only so many configurations for racing out there lol.

Atlanta right now and even more so with the track aging, produce better plate racing than Daytona and Dega in the Cup series. If you told me that 4 years ago when it was first announced that they were going to reconfigured the track lol I would have said you’re crazy!

So the guy who has won the last two Daytona 500s in a row is the first non Penske guy on this list but it’s ALL luck?
No, it's not ALL luck, but the ratio of luck to skill is greater than at non-plate / pack / drafting tracks. There's also a higher reliance on the skills of other drivers.

Cant wait to get there.

Any recommendations for our day in Atlanta on Saturday? Already doing the basics: Aquarium, Coke Museum and College Football HOF but still looking for a "nicer" restaurant that night if anybody has any recommendations.

We did Stone Mountain back when we went, which was like 15 years ago. I’ve always wanted to go back because it was raining and foggy the time we were there, so we couldn’t see anything from the top. Plus, the gift shop wasn’t open.
