Atlanta Herd of Turtles

RPM, I agree with both points.

Carl Long ran a slow but very good race. He made the team and sponsor happy I am sure. I'm sure that team didn't care that much that they were 11 laps down on speed. They finished and they can give themselves a big pat on the back and a clear step forward in trying to make the series more often.

The #74 team has surprised me and I am glad to see them doing well with Tony Raines. I hope Staff America decides to move up to a full-time sponsorship. This team has slowly come together in Cup, and it is worth it for them to keep trying.

Wowzer, forgot all about the 74......glad to hear Tony did that well.

Uhh Kel......you talked about "garage bound" like you know what the cutoff is.....do you?

Inquiring minds want to know.:D

The last I heard, and this was during a race in 2000, late in the season it was "within 7 Mph of the leaders time" dont know if that was a broadcasters interpretation or the real rule. It may actually be measured in seconds but at that particular track it averaged out to 7mph. I've used 7 as a gauge since then.

The minimum is established and provided to the teams following Happy Hour for each race. The formula is 15% below the fastest time posted during Happy Hour.

A car failing to maintain minimum speed is given one warning. If black flagged for failure to maintain minimum speed your day is done.

At least that was the rule at the start of the 2002 season.

That seems much more fair than having it based on the leaders speed during the race, and also much easier to keep track of! I guess that broadcaster was just blowing smoke or they have made some changes....whatever the case that is something that we the fans can even figure out and keep up with. Thanks HS!

:D
