August 29, 1921: Wendell Scott, the only black driver to win a Grand National/Cup race, is born in Danville, Va. Scott, inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1999, competes in 495 races from 1961 to 1973, picking up his only win in 1964 at Speedway Park in Jacksonville, Fla.
