Austin Dillon "We have to start getting crazier,"

This is beginning to be a Danica style bashing thread. I'm earmarking some of these posts for the I told you so thread when the brothers start kicking azz. I'll have the plates of crow standing by.

Make sure you save mine................. thank you in advance

People don't like him because they feel that all of this was handed to him. Our Champion said so once. I don't mind him. Think the Dillons are fine when they aren't running into my guy during the Chase.

Your champion not mine

I think Dillion's number will be called more this year
If this is right then, he'll stall out in cup and be a back marker for his entire career.

Him winning that NW championship without a single win is the worst thing to happen to NASCAR.

I thought the new chase was...or Jeffy not making the finals..make up your mind will ya.[/quote]

Jury is still out, it's only been one season. I think it will really matter once Ty jumps in a couple of years, if not after this year in Xfinity. Ty seems a bit more aggressive than the older brother, but I think Austin is good. Menard has gotten faster over the years, if he can get faster, so can Austin. I'm a lot more optimistic than others though, but always give rookies another year to ensure it wasn't a flash in the pan. In this case, I would like to see him be more aggressive and push more to prove he's not just there because of money, but that the talent is there.

Didn't wreck all of last season, got a nice pole at Daytona, four top-10s', and finished in 20th in the standings. Nice start, but lets see some aggression after racking up the mileage of learning. Menard likeable btw? He doesn't say enough to be liked and I'm a Menard advocate. If Austin is the consistent, more patient brother. I wonder what Ty will be like once he makes the move?

Hey what's not to like about this guy?

Can you not see all those pouring emotion? :XXROFL:

Umm what does this have to do with Jeff? Further more, what does this have to do with THE chase?

Dont be an idiot for the sake of it, please.

and if they don't?

^ Seen him smile a could of times, it was creepy at first sight. From what I hear he is a nice guy, but just very quiet. I guess not everyone is so outspoken.:idunno:

I like quiet. I'm the same way in real life.

But it's wierd seeing an athlete being this reclused. I mean, not even my boy Tim Duncan is this uptight. And you won't find anyone more quiet and kept to himself kind of guy than he is.

That foot locker commercial.:XXROFL:

Some people want to keep their lives private, not all on twitter and social media. Nothing wrong with that.

and if they don't?
I believe that there's no way that they'll be as bad as a lot of these posts claim. They may not be a contender for the win every race or every championship but I think that they'll do well. And I have a plate of crow with my name on it just in case.

I doubt you'll be eating any crow, Dillon will be a top 15 driver in his career and that's not something to be ashamed of.

Eh, honestly I just can't help but wonder where they'd really be at if it wasn't for Grandpappy. Would they still have a cup ride, or would they still be kicking around in Xfinity or in Camping World, maybe K&N?

They both have talent but haven't really seen any "Super Star" talent. I wonder if they will do as much as Kyle did for Petty Racing. Cant see it being too good driving for Grandpa, crews will have to handle them with kid gloves.

Where would Jeff Gordon be if it wasn't for his step dad? If it wasn't for family a lot of drivers wouldn't have made it as far as they did In my opinion. Jarrett, Waltrip, Petty and on and on.

I've heard crew chiefs and drivers fighting over the radio (even Knaus and Johnson fought over the radio) during a race. I can't really see any crew chief doing that with the Dillion brothers, less they incur Grandpappy's wrath.

Your champion not mine

Part of my self inflicted pledge to refer to him as such instead of my Delana's Wife line until such time Kyle Busch takes his rightful spot as "The People's Champion". :D

But grandpa has come on the radio and gave them what for.
Then again he also told Ty to githim.

i think Austin will be just fine in cup, both Dillon's for that matter, but i do believe he'll have to get more crazier to get some wins. i think he always has taken care of his cars but just needs to go balls out some, take some chances. i also feel as RCR is a touch behind when it comes to racing for wins, but as his teammate the great Ryan Newman proved last years you don't have to win to be in it. although i don't see that happening much. i do think he will have a championship in all 3 series before he retires, as much as i was pulling for Biffle to win in all 3, i believe Austin will get it done.

Simple question. Would either Dillon be where they are today if not related to pop-pop? Would they have gotten rides based on their own abilities in the lower series when they first started out? How much influence on their ''performance'' did pop-pops equipment have back then?
Not h8tin', just askin'

Always love the Grandpaw's money angle, it usually shows that the poster doesn't know too much about auto racing. It isn't like stick n ball where the majority are poor and come from the hood. Auto racing has always had a rich and privileged element since the beginning along with pure raw talent drivers who made the big show without loads of money. The Petty family, Earnhardt family, Jarrett, Elliott, Blaney, Keselowski, Childress, on and on and that is just a few in the Nascar realm, not to mention in all of racing. Give me a break.

don't see how anyone that doesn't have a fair amount of money to begin with could ever make it to the top series now. hell it hard to attend a race or two without having some extra money, a lot of people can't afford the extra money to view racing on TV.

It'll be interesting to see how Austin does this year. Some drivers greatly improve in their 2nd full season (see Brad Keselowski) and some drivers horribly regress (see Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.). I think he will get a win and make the chase this year, but will probably fall out early.

yep, I was watching a go cart show, and I couldn't believe how much money and sacrifice families were making at THAT level. Larson's parents told him they could only support him so far and I don't think that was even at the mini sprint level. You need a racing family or a wheel barrow full of money to take a shot now days.

they wont even be in racing because they would have been born into a different family business if Richard owned a construction company.

yep it is a simple rhetorical question alright. Would Richard Petty or Dale Sr have gotten to where the are if they didn't come from a racing family? Jr.?, Kezelowski? the press made a big deal out of the Childress story and they forgot to mention that the Dillion's dad Mike, raced in the lower levels, Nationwide, and one sprint cup race in 98.

Dillon's best career season came in 1998. He had 2 top-5s and 7 top-10s en route to 12th in points. The two top-5s were a 4th at Hickory (led 54 laps) and a 5th at Watkins Glen International.

I saw Harv up close at Phoenix ............................... he is the smallest bully I ever saw

If we could just get you to keep to yourself a bit more

Somtimes I think we do it the wrong way..
The jury is still out. Austin may never win a race, or he might be a genuine title contender one day.

If we wait till he is in his 40s to determine if he is a bust, or winding down a great career we can claim we knew it all the time..

He knows how to play the game. When is the last time somebody really got their ass kicked by anyone? He talks ****, and then doesn't back it up because he doesn't have to. The bull**** pushing Brad from behind was beyond pathetic, but somehow he plays it up as cute. The worst thing I ever saw him do was the condescending pat on Brad's cheek after a NNS race a couple of years ago in the pressroom. Brad should have gone after him like a ****** spider monkey. You just don't touch another guy that way. I am not into calling drivers names on this board, but theoretically, if you act like a dick long enough, it will catch up with you. Theoretically, he is past due.

I remember him patting brads cheek, he knew brad wouldnt do anything, its all calculated from the get go ................ I just hope I get to see it when he pisses off the wrong guy

yes, that family money makes your dreams and wishes come true.
i remember Buckshot Jones dad saying that he wished he could go back and he would have just given his son 2 million dollars of the 4 million he invested in a new shop and all and stayed away from racing period. said he blew over 4 million dollars helping Buckshot get started.

There are a lot of drivers who would never make it if it wasn't for someone getting behind them.
JJ was going no where until JG stepped in.
Harvick and a few others slept on the floor or couch at Ron's place trying to get a start.
Just because the Dillon's are related to Pop-Pop that alone didn't get them to this point.

JJ was racing dirt stadium trucks I believe, pretty much nowhere. I guess that series morphed into monster trucks and outside dirt trucks. Yeah all it gave the Dillions was the opportunity, they had to do something with it. Unlike their Dad who Richard sponsored and wasn't that good at it. Rusty Wallace is a recent example of a son breaking his dad racing. Randy Lajoie's son is running on the edge, could go either way.

Paul menard has an advantage no one else really has had that I am aware of. That is full funding from his dad. I know richard owns the team, but that is very much NOT the same as having a dad willing to sponsor the car indefinitely. Paul menard faces no questions about performance. His only question is what owner is going to put the best car on the track for me.

''Grandpaw's money angle'' Yep today you need funding. You can't go to the junk yard today and drag home a race car, those days are long gone.
My point, they didn't start off using anything less than top shelf equipment. Go look into what it costs to go racing in a strictly stock ''hobby class''. Very few make it and the ones that do have the combination of some talent but more importantly ''Grandpaw's money'' funding them.
I think each of us here can name at least one driver at our local track that is easily as good as any in cup and that includes JJ and JG. They didn't get the funding.
