Good things happen to good people.
Last night, I was bartending at my job when two Latina college students celebrating from the West Coast invited me to come to their hotel room after I ended my shift….. to celebrate graduation of course. You can all speculate about the transpirings of that visit, but I must admit I thought my week could not get any better. I was wrong.
I was seething with rage today when I turned on the television and discovered that Tyler Reddick was dominating at MY home track. I thought I was going to have to emigrate from the beautiful state of South Carolina. But, Darlington is called The Lady in Black for a reason…. That being that ladies never forget. Let’s take a little history lesson.
Last fall, “The Bull” Kevin Harvick had The B+ Driver beat in the fall race at Darlington. His brilliant driving coupled with Rodney Childers’ brilliant strategy call to pull into pit road before Reddick was obviously going to work and Harvick was going to win his final race. Reddick, being a bad person, decided he was going to brake check a senior citizen in Ryan Newman causing Newman to lose control of his vehicle and cause a caution. The caution flew right before Harvick pulled into pit road and he suffered a penalty, ending his chances of winning. Reddick went on to choke in that race, as he does anytime he has to race an A+ driver like Kyle Larson for the win. But the Lady in Black wasn’t done with her revenge.
Today, Tyler Reddick somehow fraudulently put himself in position to potentially challenge Chris Buescher for the win. But Reddick is everything that everybody claims Ross Chastain is…. A dirty driver who hides behind “I’m sorry”s. He tried to cheat on the Lady in Black once again, as he is a dirty driver. He knew that “The Geezer” Brad Keselowski was closing in on him, and that Chris Buescher was not going to cut him any slack. He was in an RFK sandwich. So what does he do? He tried a move on Buescher that only a bad person would attempt…. He dove it into the corner knowing he would end up taking Buescher out. This wasn’t hard racing. This was dirty driving. But The Lady in Black never forgets, and she rewarded Reddick with a flat tire for his attempt to cheat. She let the old guys win once again, as Bad Brad Keselowski finally took his long deserved victory. Good things happen to good people.
For all the laps he led, for all the dirty moves he pulled off, Tyler Reddick once again proved himself to be the Jayson Tatum/Dak Prescott of NASCAR. Unable to make it count when it matters. B+ at best.
He finished 32nd. Bad things happen to bad people.
