This is incorrect. Wednesday heat winners are not automatic.

Thursday’s half dozen or so semis award points that are added to Wednesday heat race points to set the first 8 rows of the A Main. 6 more cars transfer from the B Main plus 2 IMS provisionals and 2 possible USAC provisionals.
