'Best Damn Garage In Town' will soon be no more
The site that once housed one of the most famous landmarks in NASCAR will soon be covered with condos.
Smokey Yunick was one of the most colorful figures in NASCAR. His attempts to skirt NASCAR rules made him a legend. His Daytona Beach based shop, named the `Best Damn Garage In Town' was famous as a meeting place in days of old.
Yunick passed away in May 2001 and his will expressly stated that the corner where the garage stood be sold along with the buildings.
The next move in the process was made Tuesday night in Daytona as the Downtown-Ballough Road Redevelopment Area Board unanimously approved a new concept for Terra Mark, which proposes 178 condos in two towers of 20 and 25 stories at the site.
