Bonehead of the Race - Bristol I

My nomination goes to Ryan Preece for hitting everything but the pace car in the first 50 laps...hits KyBu on the first caution, hits a backmarker, blows a tire and takes Chase with him. In 50 laps. At Bristol. That's like 30 laps at a 1.5'er. Fought back to finish P25.

he gets the Stenhouse award alright.

I got two for the week, first, the flagman for throwing the checkered flag on a very good race, and the serious BH goes to 2/22 for giving away the race, and a 3rd BH to NASCAR for the tweet posted on the first page.

Penske or Harvick, ruining your race before it even starts is pretty bad.

Can't be Harvick. Rodney said that the OSS was measuring inconsistently. He never disappoints.

I pick Kyle Busch, he doesn't understand that a wrecked up crap car on old tires shouldn't win
As a matter of fact it is true that a women can out run a man with her skirt up and his pants down.
We have seen many times where a car can run faster with the rear bumper cover shorten.
Now you give KB that advantage and he is going to win unless he is racing against Harvick with his special rear spoiler. :headbang:

Honestly? I'm gonna beat a dead horse but NASCAR for failing to market or make Bristol a race that is well attended or at least half full.
Bristol should sell itself but if you are gonna lay blame, NASCAR doesnt run that track so put it on Bruton and Marcus Smith, but can you really do that to two of the best promoters in the business? People for some reason just dont do the spring race like they used too so I would say Bristol may be looking at 1 race next year and that would be the night race. It still does very well.

They're the best promoters in the business because there is no other promoters. I would prefer a NASCAR schedule with 20-25 independently owned tracks by track but that's just me. I would have to say SMI ticket prices at LVMS, Sonoma are kinda overpriced to where I think they should be.

And the funny thing is, dirt track racing is honestly doing very well (imo) compared to asphalt stock car racing in terms of fans & car counts anymore.

Ok guys who say I'm a NASCAR homer, check it out- NASCAR gets the bonehead this week. They MUST get a handle on these rule infractions. Lets look at Kevin Harvick, did he fail inspection? Yes and he deserves a penalty but you CANNOT virtually end his day at the beggining of the race. You not only penalized his team but you penalized his fans, many who may have traveled hundreds of miles and spent several hundred dollars to watch him. If a football team gets an unsportsman like penalty, it doesnt basically end their chance of winning and it shouldnt happen here either. Uncontrolled tire? I understand the rule but, if its a green flag stop and no car is around you and that tire doesnt leave the box, then it should not be a penalty. I dont have all the answers but those two need addressing NOW, not next year.

I see this dirt comparison all the time, There isnt a dirt track in the country that can draw NASCAR numbers. Eldora is a great race but even that crowd would be small if it showed up at Bristol or Atlanta. They ran a big dirt race at Bristol a few years back and attendance wasnt anything to write home about.

Tickets at Bristol are overpriced
other tracks too

the cost of a ticket is a third to half of what I would spend at a race

sell tickets for $25 a piece in the roped off areas,
if I knew I could take my family of 4 for a hundred bucks, we would have been there in a heartbeat
and spent another couple hundred on food and souvenirs

think this is a no-brainer to get people in the stands

Why should Bristol be reduced to 1 race and not Martinsville as they had similar attendance?

You sound bitter. That pit call could have happened to anybody.....anybody who was watching the 11 and intimidated....and Brad's meltdown could have happened to....Brad. You want to go with the bumper cover. Okay. I'll take it. You get KB close, and he wins. He beat Harvick with his spoiler.

Wow, is no one going to say it? Okay.

Kurt Busch for hitting the wall with three to go. He would have won, I'm not the only one right??

Shout out to FOX for giving us three hours of commercials with a little racing in between.

Agree 100 % and I am not a Harvick fan. It looks to me like Nascar is doing everything they can to control things that do not need to be controled. A pit crew member whose hand touches the track for balance means he is over the wall? Lets get real, that is the worse position if he wants to be first. A tire that remains in the pit box standing perfectly still is a violation?
Who the hell dreams up these stupid things? Fire those morons and while your at it get rid of the idea they must have a caution near the end of every race.
While Nascar continues with this ridiculous thinking they will never right the ship.
Next man that needs to be replaced is the director of competition.

I disagree on the Kurt call. Rim riding was his only chance of even getting close to his brother
and at best he was only a 5th place car. He only got to the front because of the Team Penske mistakes.

I damn sure agree with you on the tire out of control

Translation- "I like my job and don't want to get on NASCAR's naughty list so it's all good"
That’s what I read too. Plus, I knew better than to call out NASCAR so disregard everything I said post race. Thank you NASCAR.

Yeah was funny how the Fox guys couldn’t make up their mind if it was an advantage or disadvantage.

I am usually one of the first to jump on the networks because of the flood of commercials. Below is a chart showing the last hour of broadcast. They covered the race for 44 straight minutes at the end. Over the last hour they broadcasted 52 minutes of the race with 8 minutes of commercials. The other positive thing I noticed is that all of the commercials were only 2 or 3 minutes with one exception being 4 minutes. I see other TV shows where some commercial breaks are 6 minutes long.

3:52 PM – 3:59 PM – 7 3:59 PM – 4:02 PM – 3
4:02 PM – 4:08 PM – 6 4:08 PM – 4:11 PM – 3
4:11 PM – 4:13 PM – 2 4:13 PM – 4:16 PM – 3
4:16 PM – 5:00 PM – 44 5:00 PM – checkered flag

I glanced at the specs on Jayski, it was less than 33% of the race was commercials of some kind. I guesstimate it at around 30%, but when they flip the switch depending on the race they miss some of the really good parts that happen live. When it is really bonehead is when they are showing a car in the pits and they are talking about what adjustments the driver needs, and they cut away right when the crewman is going to adjust the car. Those kind of things are bad coverage.

I wonder how they count split screens? If the race is still being shown ( 15% of the screen)
is it considered race time or commercial time? I believe Canadian law says 25% of the hour can be used as Commercial time.

I don't think Kyle was apt to let the 1 get to the bumper

What is a commercial ?

3 side by side for a total of 8 minutes. There were 2 for 6 minutes in that last hour run.

Oh agree 100%. I find the lack of quality production worse than commercials...except those freaky KFC ones.

Letting Corey Lajoie race in this series.

Meh, I originally thought that, but Chase really stood on the brakes and cut down in front of him. Not much vision for LaJoie to see what was happening ahead, where Chase had clear view. If Chase stayed up high on the brakes, he maybe had a chance to escape without damage, or squeak by on the outside.

I'm gonna go with the "large gathering" cheering when the 18 got damaged early. Lol.
