I was thinking they put out the red at the end of pit road and they can't go on the track.
That would cost a few laps at some tracks.
I like the idea but I don't think it could be reliably executed. Backing up on pit road is to be avoided, including sending out a crew member for service or jack removal outside the pit box. Pit stops happen in clusters; Apart from unscheduled stops the cars need gas and tires within very close groupings or time frames.
Again I like the idea of flagging the car, but an acess route back to the garage area would be needed. That would allow a car to loop around for service to remove whatever is needed, and almost anyone could perform the deed behind the wall. Then the car makes it's way back to the track via a pit road re-entry.
Things are also complicated by how quickly a car could be flagged. The car in the first pit box would be almost impossible to stop in time, at least more difficult to recognize and stop prior to exiting pit road.
I dont think a ratchet on a screw jack is as big of a deal, the car simply returns for removal and the natural repercussions are a strong enough deterrent imo. But a stuck floor jack is totally different. There are too many things that can go wrong if one were to become unhinged on the track. The construction, shape with the handle, weight etc could be a tumbling tripod, with catapult tendacies and it just has to many god awful possibilities. The potential to land in the green house area of another car being one of the worst.
So IMO the best defense is a strong penalty. I think the situation demands an immediate caution. And I think a punitive penalty needs to be enforced. Nobody does it intentionally but when it does happen a strong deterrent is needed imo. A two lap penalty at the least, teams have to own it, and a fail should be devastating in terms of winning the race.
This is not a dig at Lagono, to the best of my knowledge Nascar didn't/doesn't have a procedure. If that is truly the case they did the right thing by not creating a retroactive rule ( or making it up as you go). Good on Lagano for recovering and winning in accordance with the rules as currently stated.
All imo, a long read, would have been more consise if capable. (A lot of writing while the wife thought she had my undivided attention. Hopefully it makes sense.... and I ain't in trouble).
