Bowyer penalized 150 point

Remember when they used to jump on the roof of the car to celebrate a victory?

I liked the PVC anti celebration device that they tried using for a month or so. Do you remember how they would come out and hold it in victory lane as soon as the driver was getting out of the car? Funny stuff.

“I think NASCAR has a lot of problems with a lot of cars on the race track being out of the box,” Bowyer said. “I think they needed to set an example. … Grab a quarter out of your pocket. That’s 65-thousandths of an inch thick – less than the thickness of that quarter resulted in a 150-point fine.

Thanks for the link. I agree with Clint 100%. I don't think he or Richard is stupid enough to take and race an illegal car knowing that nascar was going to take it regardless of where they finished. Yes a wrecker pushing your car can mess with it. I agree about the 11 and 48. Fail inspection and then given a chance to go through again and passed, that's not right. There should have been a penalty there too.

:beerbang: I don't think they are stupid enough either.

the whole deal stinks, this was gonna be Bowyers best shot at the title, luckily, it's only been one race and he has time to make up ground. NASCAR and their fractions of an inch...

I wonder what the people on the forum would have to say if this was Kyle:rolleyes:

Me too. I would still be saying the same thing, cause I happen to be a Kyle fan, and I could care less about Bowyer. I figure at least half that are saying the penalty is BS would agree with the penalty if it was Kyle. And that's kind of sad that it depends on the driver and not what happened and the penalty.

This coming from a driver who's car did NOT pass post race inspection at the track but did after it "cooled off"

and how do you take a car that was destroyed in the back end from being pushed by a wrecker and REPLACE NOTHING on the back end and bring it back next week and pass inspection?Per Denny's words in that clip.

Just Denny talkin **** again.

You use the word "Destroyed" like the wrecker hit him at 50MPH. Do we have pics if the car?

I thought putting Per Denny's words in that clip.would have been enough but I guess not.

Appeal hearing for the #33 team is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 29th.

According to NASCAR, since 1999 there have been 132 appeals of penalties. The outcome? 88 were upheld (66%), 42 were reduced or overturned (32%) and 2 were increased (2%)

I wonder if the 'tow truck' defense will prevail?

According to what i have heard and read RCR was warned quite awhile back about being close to the tolerance thing for the body mounts. If this is true or not or just BS, not sure. Denny Hamlin seems to think it was and spouted off about it enough to get Harvick pretty upset. Looks like Hamlin will have to watch his ass on Sunday. I can see Bowyer maybe getting his penalty reduced a little, say down to 100 points instead of 150.

I dunno, I think Nascar will take a hard line and make an example of Boyer.

The "The wrecker made my car illegal" story is starting to sound like "The dog ate my homework".

Yea, I'm kinda on the fence on this issue. On one hand I can see what Boyer is saying, the car is just ever so slightly out of the box that it doesn't seems worth it to penalize Boyer so much. However Hamlin also made a good point in the fact that you have to anticipate your car being damaged to a point where it is push out of the tolerance and you'd just have to weigh the worth vs. risk of pushing your car to the edge.

Both sides make good points about this whole debacle, and right now I'm just sitting on the fence waiting to see how all of this is going to pan out.

Well, wasn't the penalty for illegal body mounts anyway? That sounds pretty cut 'n dried.

NASCAR took the cars of #48-Johnson, #24-Gordon, and #33-Bowyer back to the R&D Center for further inspection after the race yesterday. Could it happen twice in a row?

I heard that they took the second place car of Jeff Burton too. Now that would be really interesting as it was likly built in the same shop.

Eh I doubt it, I think all three will pass inspection.

They only announced the three that I had mentioned before but they did take Burton's engine for dyno testing.....

The engines of #48-Johnson, #31-Burton, #2-Busch, #99-Edwards, and #18-Busch were taken as follow up to dyno tests conducted after the Michigan race.

How do you anticipate the amount of damage your car may recieve and how do you factor in a tolerance for it? He have a crystal ball or something?

I think what Denny is saying is that you have to decide whether or not you want to take the chance of being right on the edge when it comes to your car's set up with the knowledge that it MAY get damaged during the race or after, and that damage will push it out of tolerance.

Every car I've ever been involved with has always been built staying in the black area of the rules:rolleyes:.

If the damage was more extensive we wouldn't be talking about this. But the damage, from what I've read, is extremely minor.

That's a bull**** remark by Hamlin, you could be right in the middle of the tolerance curve and still sustain enough damage to put you either out or right on the edge. What SST said is true, Hamlin is talking out his ass.

I have always thought hamlin was a f***in cry baby he sure poured it on hard during his interview, I'm still pizzed that harvick is not the point leader !!!

natzicar does something new every day to push me further away

Agreed. JGR should be renamed Joe Cribs Racing. All of his drivers are whiney little babies.
