Bowyer's "RETARD" Comment

In his post race interview Clint used the word "RETARD" to decribe the on track actions of some drivers. That is a VERY inflamatory word when heard by parents like myself of a mentally disabled child. I hope ALL the advocacy groups involved with disabled people come down HARD on this clown. NASCAR...here's your chance to set an example of ZERO tolerance. This type of language has NO PLACE in society. It's as bad as using the "N" when refering to black people. Shame...Shame...Shame...

We have safe houses around here labeled ARC. GOOGLE it.

I guess I need to become more PC.

I don't take offense to people using the "N" word because, after living in a majority African-American community, I can honestly say I heard that word more times in a single day from rap music and from kids walking home from school than anyone in the south could possibly imagine.

I don't condone the use of the "N" word but I don't think anyone has the right to get upset about its use when they use it themselves.

What are those houses used for? C'mon man.

I understand not liking PC attitudes, but some people are so hellbent on not being PC that they feel they have to be offensive.

Wow, you liberals don't get anything. That word was used against african Americans from the day they were born, and they really couldn't make people stop. So, they stole the meaning of the word and made it a term of friendship. I've had friends say it's OK with them because I get it, but I just don't feel right. It's just an ugly word.

I'm happy Clint apologized. He's a good guy who spoke badly.

It's an ugly word - but don't say a word has one meaning when it's uttered by someone of your skin color but a different meaning when uttered by someone of a different color. People who use that word themselves and then cry "racism" when someone else uses it are the most racist themselves.

I agree! It's called being a hypocrite. Unfortunately there are a a lot of those out there. But that's a different story.

Basically, the person above me is right. We've all said things out of the heat of the moment that we later regret. He said it and he apologized. That issue is done and over with.

You really don't listen to anything other than your own opinion, do you?

In away I agree with Andy, but at the same time I think it's the form you use for it, er no but with an a yeah that shouldn't be considered racist since they use it as a form of friendship, which I would be using too.

As far as what Clint said, yeah it was bad but I can't fire at him for it(not just because he said sorry) because they've been times I been mad and it slips out from my mouth. All I know this race weekend was a crazy one and one that might be remembered for quite sometime.

Andy lives in a world where he is always right no matter what. He will change his opinion week to week sometimes day to day and expect everyone to forget his previous stance on things. lol

I think people need to calm down an accept his apology. He used a poor choice of words in the heat of the moment. Get over it already. Jeff did act like someone with brain damage, but Clint should have phrased it differently to avoid offending people.

Clint appoligizes on Twitter, not good enough for the author CHUCK. But where is his piece on Ann Coulter? She didn't say sorry at all.

The comment is unfortunate. It should not be easily dismissed. Special needs children and adults needs love and respect. Their lives are priceless, and my little boy has more heart and courage than anyone I have ever met.
It takes a strong heart or soul to carry on with dignity and zest, for a person born with devastating problems. I am proud of my boy he knocks it out the park

Racing people are great in reaching out, Clint or anyone else needs to always respect the struggles.

But he apologized and un forgiveness is just one more burden to bear. Let it go, let the pain and hurt go and just carry on, it is best for Clint, but even better for the gracious forgiver. Life is about living not bitterness.

If Clint wants to donate to a charity as a good will statement that would be great , but I don't want any extortion or shakedowns.

Wasnt that interview originally played from a tape? Why would they air it unedited if it was. I heard the word **** used on live tv yesterday and havent heard anything said about that yet.

A third of us think he's an ass for saying it and the other two thirds think its funny. If it was KyBu three quarters would think that he's an ass for saying it one quarter thinking it's funny. It's the same for any driver, CC, owner or team member. Who they are and who pulls for or likes them is the deciding factor of what side of the fence they fall on. Personally I still think that he should be punched in the snoot, mainly because in the heat of the moment a persons true colors always comes out and his clearly showed that he is and was an ass.

We're all products of our environment. Wrong to say in many circles and accepted in others. The guy apologized to those that are offended by his comments. I'm not sure what else needs to happen. Seems like a done deal to me.

Nothing else will, could or should be done but I would still like to see him with a punched snoot with word floating around about the mother, father or teacher that popped him one. That I would like.

I'm wondering if the entire word 'retarded' is off limits? Example: If said said 'that comment is retarded', is that offensive too?

I'm asking a serious question, because there seems to be a lot of emotion attached to that word for some people.

And how about when you are talking about the timing setting on your vehicle and setting it to retarded timing?
