Bowyer's "RETARD" Comment

I have been informed that the Special Olympics.org have been in contact with officials @ NASCAR regarding this situation. Since the interview was performed @ a Nascar event, also on a Nascar (ISC) owned facility broadcast live worldwide. Mr Bowyers fate has yet to be determined. Im sure the Sadler Bros will have a little talk this weekend with Clint also.....Stay Tuned

I'm not sure that there is a fair comparison between Clint's one single comment and Kyle's body of work.
 
This is what I don't get. And I mean no disrespect toward others who are directly affected by this.

If somebody walks up to me with their retarded other that they care for, they don't say, "Say Hello to Timmy, he's a retard."

I worked at the special olympics (winter edition), and nobody there, for I could tell, would ever refer to an athlete as a retard. They were regarded as special. SO.... If you replaced special into Bowyers statment, what does that do?

Does it make him seem like he's telling everybody that Gordon is a retard without saying the actual word. Even though we don't use the word Retard in the context of Retarded people.

There probably is a 'politically correct' terminology ,but I have no idea what it might be . I am much too old for that stuff. I still can't get used to calling black people ..non whites .

That was'nt a comparison between the two, it was meant to show the one sidedness of most fans perspectives on an incident, it depends on who was involved.
 
The only complexity is doing the right thing.

Most of us are old enough to remember when mentally handicapped people even as children were commonly referred to as retarded.
It was a tougher social scenario then. Those kids were more isolated into 'special' classes at school.
That is problematic because the hand that nature dealt them is already cruel. The isolation makes it worse, and it is easier to dehumanise those that we don't rub shoulders with.

It is just common sense and we have learned we don't isolate those kids anymore. Thank God because every one, young, old, rich, poor, the beautiful, the less attractive types, the brilliant and the mentally challenged, we all need love, appreciation, friendship, in short to feel valued. Especially in those young insecure years.

Just stop for a moment and think if were wheel chaired bound or something like that due to a genetic condition, that was given to you at conception. Or what if you have some genetic learning difficulties.

You can still dream, you wish as a teenage boy you could kiss a girl, or a girl wishes she could be the homecoming queen etc...

Fate gave you a body that makes that an impossible dream, and you will surely never get to do what Clint does.

Then imagine when someone does something stupid, idiotic, and here comes the retarded comparisons. Remember the innocent woke up this morning with an incurable problem, and will go to bed with it too.

Now I am not angry at Bowyer, he said he was sorry that's enough. But there are people that hurt, let's not add any more burdens upon them.

Remember the golden rule.
 
I'm disappointed with Bowyers choice of words and glad that he maned up and apologized for his remark, However I beleive people have become way to sensitive to comments made by others not reffering to them or anyone their conected with. Bowyers comment was directed to One Individual no one else so lets all grow a little thicker skin and move on from this incident.

Yes, that's offensive too. It's because you're making a comparison to someone who had no say in or control over an irreparable condition, with the implication that the condition is funny.

With that said, words in the heat of battle are often poorly chosen. I'm in the 'He apologized, forgive it' crowd.

I prefer, IDIOT, MORON, or DUMBASS. Or you can connect ASS with anyword out there. I love that word. It's like a swiss army knife. It requires much more skill that F bombing everybody.

The F bomb is a way of expressing something with a certain ammount of gravity.......... tweet tweet....
