BREAKING NEWS: Rick Hendrick Plane Crash

Everything Speed said is correct. "N" is the international designation for the US. You can have your choice of number/letters following if not already in use.

Landing is the most demanding activity in aviation. Altitude is governed by your throttle while maintaining correct angle of attack and speed to prevent a stall. Add in flap settings and don't forget that little lever with a wheel on it to lower the gear.

A short field with a moderate cross wind and you gots yerself a par---ty :growl:

LOL :p I'm sorry man but reading your completely accurate post while seeing your Avatar off to the side is one of the funniest moments I've had all day :p

That's $10 Million down the drain! I hope the insurance was current!

I dunno, if the airframe wasn't damage in the crash, then the repairs would be relatively cheap. However, if the air frame was damage....then yikes.

LOL. Oh wow, if you really want a party, try a cross wind landing where there are trees at both end of the runway and the runway width is 40 feet. I once flew out of such an airport (8A6) at one time in my recreational aviation career.

Landing at the airport on Catalina Island is pretty wicked too! I was a passenger, not the pilot, but I had my foot on the brake!! lol

Scariest flight (I guess) was returning home from spring break and the engine grenaded on takeoff at 4,000 ft. A quivk U-turn and we landed back on the same runway. I thought it was entertaining until I saw all the rescue vehicles racing alongside the runway. That whiped the smile off my face and I stopped saying "The pilot forgot his keys" everytime someone cried 'what's happening'.

You are right that is a short runway. I liked going over on my boat a lot better.

Should have driven to Key West its a more senic trip

And at the end of that runway is a cliff...
It is a scary landing and they have had a few crashes at Catalina Island. When I lived on my boat at Tahiti Marina in Marina Del Rey I use to go over all the time but in 2000 I sold my boat and moved to Orange County and I have not been over there since. The team that I worked on for the 1998 and 1999 season bought a 1998 Dassault Falcon 2000 and that was a nice jet to travel to the races on. But I must be wired wrong because I acually enjoy driving the hauler rather then being a fly in.

Eh done that before, it's not really. The other island in the Keys look like crap compared to Key West.

Its not the island parts it the bridge parts. The islands are just places for scuba places, gift shops, and those billboards for an adult supercenter.
