They'll never know how much I appreciate pizza................

I hate to say this but I agree with BZF here. These young drivers... they are something special. Look at the standings for christ sake. If I'm Larson, Chase, sitting 1st and 3rd in the standings, I would lord it over every old fart in the garage sitting outside the playoffs. I don't care if it's ****ey, the kids have earned that right. If you don't like it then step up and beat them.

I realize that I'm a buzzkill here for the sport. I've followed NASCAR since I was probably 10 years old.
People here and my friends locally absorb every BS change to the sport since Brian began screwing everything up. Every year with every goofy change fans band together and say, "Well it really isn't that bad. At least they're still racing." Yeah, it really is that bad. I recognize that the fan demographic is changing.
A drunken fool in charge that is throwing darts at a map is a futile endeavor.
It's extremely difficult not to watch this year. I shelled out over $1,000 for tix and didn't see a lap.
I'm as hardcore a fan as anyone on this board but I'm not going to be complacent with the direction this idiot is moving the sport.
I'll continue to boycott and you guys will continue to bitch about my passion.
I want nothing more than to see this sport flourish but I can't ignore that a moron is at the helm.
Thanks for putting up with me.
As long as you can put up with the ones that still have some passion( positive kind) for whats left of NASCAR then deal, I think we can put up with you;).

On side note, NASCAR has been a part of my life for 20 odd years now, and I still love it, but that does not mean I think "everything is great", I just try and ignore it, or not think about it and just focus on the actual racing bit.

The young drivers have always annoyed the established drivers on the track. DW PO'ed Richard Petty and the other top drivers on the track and off (and earned his Jaws nickname). I'm sure a young driver got under DW's skin at some point. A couple current examples are Kez and Laganno, over the last number years they've gotten established drivers mad at them. And somewhere down the road someone will rattle them on the track. Jeff Gordon has been on both sides of the issue at some level.

I think one difference these days is when they put a camera in front of a driver they mostly fall back on what the sponsors have trained them to do in front of a camera. I think Edwards was one of the first to learn not to comment on an incident until after viewing the replay. Kyle Busch has even toned it down after an incident.

You don't remember?

I do remember, that's why I pointed that out. I wasn't asking because I was forgot, I was asking because it's what happened. You hate the chase, but are quick to brag about how he only won because of the chase, and overlook the fact without it he would have finished like 25th.

He he he, I finally figured out your talking about KB. Only won because of the bastard chase was my clue. :)

:p I only pointed it out because Bobby hated it so much he didn't ever watch chase races. :( He can brag about Kyle winning the championship, but hates the way he won it. So odd.

further going in the direction of WWE and "sport entertainment"

I mean look, auto racing is a sport. NASCAR is a sport in the entertainment industry. You have to have personalities in sport. Especially in today's world. We live in a need it now society, that has no attention span. Asking anyone to dedicate 3 to 4 hours out of their day to watch anything in today's day and age is hard to do. You have to have something that captivates the audience. The racing and the cars is great. I love that aspect, but it is not for everyone. The personalities sell the sport. It is what people want to see. When Kyle Busch gets dumped everyone wants to see how he reacts or what he is going to say.

It blows my mind that people get bent out of shape by the concept of sports entertainment. Dale Sr was one of the biggest personalities the sport has ever seen. There is a ******* preconceived notion about he guy that if you didn't move out of his way , he would move you!!!!

Get with the evolution of the sport because if we do not the sport will cease to exist at all. Look at the stands, the good ole boys aint going to the car races anymore.

At least they aren't being aoles about it. I don't think youngsters need to be talking smack to the veterans. If they didn't come into cup with some of the best equipment out there, I don't think they would be doing so good. Let's have Chase Elliot, and Joey Gase, swap cars. Do you think Chase would continue to run up front? He knows he is lucky to be in that position, and says so. Nothing wrong with that, in fact, I find everything right with that. Nothing wrong with giving respect to the older guys, that made it possible for them to do what they do.The rivalries will come in time, no sense rushing them, or making them phoney. Fans can see through the phoney stuff, that's why NASCAR is in the shape it is in.

Many of us were fans when it was a pure sport, and would like to see it return to that. We also know that will never happen. If the sport keeps going down the entertainment road, many of us wouldn't mind if it did cease to exist. That would open the door for a new sanctioning body, to start new with the sport being the center of attention. How long before we start getting staged crashes to attract the ghouls, who love to see crashes. We are tired of the gimmicks, they are not why we watch. The race is the thing, it's why we watch.

I haven't overlooked anything.

I'm not even watching anymore. I poke around the race threads a bit on Sunday and Monday just to see what happened but I'm not interested enough to dedicate any time in front of the TV.

I too was a fan when it was more about the sport and less about the people, but times change and the sport is forced to evolve. No matter if the sport exists or doesn't it does not change the fact that in 2017 kids, and even adults are not sitting down to invest 3 to 4 hours of their Sunday to watch a NASCAR race. We can't even get the families of today to invest 1 hour to eat together! So no matter what exists, the simplicity of the sport is never going to keep the fans of 2017 and beyond fully engaged. The sooner that gets accepted, the sooner we can start to try and figure out what needs to be changed. I cannot be mad at NASCAR for seeing Richmond(or any other track for that matter) being 1/3rd full and wondering if things need to be adjusted.

I have no issues with the current format because I do not feel like it has damaged the integrity of the race. I guess the stages are just a disguise to throw a yellow and regroup the field, which is a little suspect, but they added the stage points to make it easier to digest imo. I need to see how it effects the chase before I have a full opinion on it. The funny thing is the bolded. The race is still there. It has not gone anywhere. Behind all of the sides and fixings is the meat. 400 laps at Richmond still exists.

but the younger drivers would win more and not need attitude if they stop overdriving the car. JJ wins because he does not overdrive car.

For some reason that statement reminds me of part of Jack Nicholson's tirade during the trial in "A Few Good Men".
I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it.
